βThe Social Anxiety monster spends most of it life underground or in secluded sheltered areas, away from human contact. Because of this their skin appears pale and anemic apart from hard plates that serve as as a means of defense.They will shy away from all contact, even from a fellow monster making them elusive and rarely seen. They are from the same biological family as Anxiety and Paranoia but due to their extreme way of life they have evolved to look quite different.β
This is a special monster design, based on my own experiences with social anxiety. There are a lot of design choices to this monster that reflect me and my own difficulties.

Hmm, it would appear that either I didn't find the other recent designs that were in your tumblr or you have not uploaded them yet, either way I believe it would be unfair to criticize these older ones.
But also I don't know what to make of this particular monster, I'm not sure I get it right, that's a good thing anyway, because it makes me think, but maybe you can explain this one to me better.
btw, How are you handling my comments? I guess those were too much of a first impression XD, or was it my avatar for halloween?, neh I don't think so, anyway those are things that would fit better in a conversation but I make the points anyway.
Sorry if they are too much of a weight to answer, mind this HAS happened before to me with other people.

Hello!
Sorry for such late replies, Ive been neck deep in email and comments ever since this work was released. Its kinda why Ive held off uploading them on here.. just to save some more comments and things piling up!
I think I will add the up soon though.
With this one, its very much based on myself. The monster hides itself underground due to its own fears and needlessly protects itself (creates a cacoon/shelter aound itself) to hide away from interaction with other creatures/people. Its release it to inhabit confident people and not feel the anxiety anymore, but in turn passes the anxiety on the victim.
It pretty much sums up how I feel when it comes to social situations and generally being social anxious.Β
Its a wierd concept and I dont think I have nailed it, but I think the design works.

Oh I see, well I'll save my opinion for the more updated version of this monster once it has been uploaded, maybe you didn't nail it with this one but let me say with the other one it becomes much more apparent and it comes closer to nailing it. One thing I've noticed beforehand was the influence of pokΓ©mon in some of your drawings and ironically these creatures feel much closer to digimon conceptually in some ways but that would be something much appropiate for a covnersation XD the reason is actually colossally fascinating.
You're totally welcome I would have hoped to have the others answered but I guess you don't have time for that I mean you realy seem to be doing a lot lately judging by some of your tumblr updates, it is a shame because I am used to talk with the artists, with your designs particularly SO much can be said about them and a ton of ideas and concepts of real intellectual interest come to mind. And don't worry I have anxiety too sort of, I understand.

Your monsters are so distinct but all drawn in such a way that they very much seem part of the same universe and belonging with one another. Perhaps it's the color palette on this one, but it reminds me of a pangolin, which I love so much. So I imagine this curling up into a little ball and hiding in a corner of the room, out of sight...but with it's tail still being incredibly visible (even if unnoticed).

Well, it was based on an armadillo but I think a pangolin is actually more accurate. (ive never heard of them before!) But they curling up into a ball thing is totally what I was going for! Im so glad you were able to read into the design

Well I think youve done more than just come close, and you've given me some great ideas to further the design. ( I have a secret)
For something special I have planned in the near future I will be redesigning to monsters a little, and I really want to add some more pangolin influences because I think they are so much more lovely than aramdillos...

Oh you didn't have to go and draw me....What? That isn't me? Oh well the likeness is unbelievable. I live in a basement apartment which for me makes your description is more true.
I really like the color palette you chose. This monster really seems like it could just fade into the background so easily, which is exactly what it should do. Great work as usual =]

-huggles- <3 Love all your Real Monsters <3 They're really accurate in the portrayal of the mental disorders they're based on. I know you didn't have to do research for this one, but did you do them for the others? The D.I.D one was very accurate, down to the confusion of the main/original identity on who they are. I think that one might of been hard to do cus they don't talk much about the original personality being confused sometimes.

Im really glad think that they protay the disorder well, sometimes its very hard to draw something for this kind of concept.
For research, I mostly look on the internet and try to find actual examples of people talking about their own disorders as well as looking at general information on them. I always look specifically at the symptoms and how I can translate them into a drawing.
I did a little bit of research for the social anxiety one, just to see how other people are affected.
I also know of quite a few disorders personally, from familly and friends so I can ask people what the disorder means to them.
This project has really opened my eyes to show that mental illnesses are much more common than I originally thought and has highlighted the vast spectrum of disorders. Its fascinating and sometimes a little upsetting to read about things, but Im so glad im doing this!
