The person that wrote you such words is a jerk. Animation is just like all art forms; it comes in all shapes and fashions not ONLY just "moving" drawings. There's also using three-dimensional programs, moving clay figures or toys, and editing over videos like what you've done here.
So I consider this an animation! And it's a pretty damn cool one at that! <3 I really love the lighting effect too~

you are right it is animation, i even looked up the word you might want to edit that commentary. i remember animation class, and whoever said that the gif here, isnt animation is one stupid person. animation is a simulation of movement created by pictures (AKA: draw or not draw). XD

Heavy Metal - 1981
Disney has used the technique as well.

It's called Rotoscoping. Patented by Max Fleischer (Betty Boop and Popey animator) in 1917. In your case, I'd call it Digital Rotoscoping. It's a legitimate animation form.
