The story of the Powerpuff Girls begins years ago when their father, Drake Utonium, was just a college student. During his time at Townsville University, Utonium would meet Elaine, a beautiful young literary history major. Utonium was instantly smitten with not just her appearance but also with the fact that Elaine was intelligent in different fields such as Math, Science, History, English, Art, Self Defense, and Zoology (Elaine had a deep love for animals). After a few study group outings, Utonium eventually worked up the courage to officially ask Elaine out on a date, and the two started dating.

After their college gradation, Utonium and Elaine would later get married. For a while, life was good and was made even better when they found out Elaine was pregnant with not one, not two, but three children. Unfortunately, the young couple would be hit with devastating news when Elaine diagnosed with McCracken’s Syndrome, a disease that put a person's immune system into overdrive one second and then leave it nearly gone the next and keep switching until the person's death. It was a fairly recently discovered disease but one of the certain things about it was that thing was that it was genetic. Through genetic testing, it was discovered that Elaine was passed this disease by her father (who died too early to ever develop the disease) and she was going to be passing it to her kids.

All proposed treatments didn’t seem to work and Elaine was worsening over time as her due date got closer and closer. Elaine would unfortunately pass away during childbirth. Drake was devastated and his suffering would get worse as he discovered that his daughters were suffering from early on set McCracken's Syndrome. Utonium already lost his wife and he couldn't stand the idea that his daughters would die as well. Taking a huge risk, Utonium took his daughters out of the hospital and to his home lab/medical center where he placed them in stasis pods that could hopefully slow down the disease and give him enough time to find a cure. Helping Utonium in this endeavor was the third member of the Utonium family, Jojo, a smarter than average chimp rescued by Elaine from an animal experimental lab. Five years would pass and the best that Utonium could do was slow down the disease in his stasis locked girls and all seemed lost until a chemical project that needed time to bond finally came to completion. Chem10 or Chemical X, was ready and it proved to be capable of curing his girls, but the chemical's highly volatile nature presented as a problem. Taking the risk, Utonium was ready to administer Chemical X to the girls and would shoo away Jojo when he got in the way, but what Utonium didn't know was that Jojo over the course of the last five years, became a bitter resentful being because he lost the one he considered a mom and his dad figure was more preoccupied with 3 sleeping people more than him and being shooed away cause him to snap and he attacked Utonium causing the canister of Chemical X to be thrown towards the stasis pods and explode. When the smoke settled, Utonium could find Jojo nowhere in sight and he expected to have just lost his girls, but they were awake and somehow glowing. Utonium hugged them all and a dark truth set in, this was the first time they actually experienced life. For their mental development, they were just like a newborn, so Utonium set them inside a learning pod and after one day, they were already learning how to talk. The girls' brains were operating at a faster than normal learning capacity more than likely due to their Chemical X exposure. After one week, the girls reached up to the same level they would be at as any other 5 year old. The girls were taken out of the learning pod and for the first time they truly encountered their dad. They would go onto call him Professor since he introduced himself as "Professor Utonium, your dad." Meanwhile Utonium realized that in his time and efforts to cure them, he never gave his daughters their names. While Elaine was alive, Utonium suggested the girls be named Beatrice, Bernadette, and Bethany, but Elaine instead suggested Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup. Names to match girls made of Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice. Utonium never liked the silly names but in honor of Elaine, he would go with her choices. The girls would also begin to display superhuman abilities like flight and superhuman strength. This amazed Utonium, but also made him fear what the world would do if they discovered that his daughters were young superhumans, so he took measures to make sure that they had all they needed and wouldn't need to go out in public.

In the years since this moment, Utonium would become sole parent and teacher to his girls and he would discover that they each had a quality trait from their mother. The eldest triplet, Blossom, was quite clever and harbored an intellect that even rivaled her father’s. The youngest triplet, Bubbles, had an sweet and kind personality that matched her name perfectly and was quite creative with her drawings and clay creations. The middle triplet, Buttercup, was headstrong and had a bit of a temper, always seemed to be itching for a fight. As the girls
grew older, they begged and pleaded with Utonium to go out into the world. It took a while, but with some assurances, Utonium eventually agreed and registered them to go to junior high once they turned 13. The conditions they had to meet to go out and even attend school would be, 1) Hide your powers and keep your head down, 2) Do not detail your super science past, and 3) Always be home by curfew. All seemed to be going well until one day just before their second month of school, a pink Sasquatch-like creature named Fuzzy Lumpkins took Townsville’s Mayor and local billionaire philanthropist, Kingston Morbucks hostage. Fuzzy was angry at the fact that Morbucks’ business, Morbucks Industries, was cutting down Fuzzy’s forest home to make way for condo real estate and parking lots, something the Mayor unknowingly signed off on. With the police proving to be no match for Fuzzy, the girls leaped into action, beat up Fuzzy and saving the day, with the citizens of Townsville hailing them as heroes. When they returned home, Utonium was mad that his girls for breaking the first rule and now everyone knows that they're superhumans. The girls were grounded and during the late night news, Utonium would see that everyone was reacting positively to the girls despite some naysayers and he reflected on what it would really mean to have the world to see his girls for who they were. In the morning, the girls came down for breakfast and Utonium announced that he would allow his kids to play hero, but they have to play it as safe as they could and always look out for each other. The girls hugged their father and delighted at showing the world what they were made of, but first they needed a name. Blossom suggested The Girls, Bubbles suggested The Prettypuffs, and Buttercup suggested The Power Punks. To settle this debate, Utonium combined parts of each name and suggested the name, The Powerpuff Girls. Blossom and Bubbles loved it and Buttercup admitted that it rolled off the tongue okay.

As the protectors of Townsville, the girls quickly rose in popularity, becoming known worldwide as the world’s greatest superheroes (though a certain redheaded boy genius would say that title belonged to a team lead by a star-spangled, cape-wearing super soldier and included rock and roll god, and purple behemoth).Unfortunately, with fame and attention, these things also bring out enemies and the Powerpuff Girls have faced off against some of the most dangerous villains around. Be it, the stubborn Fuzzy Lumpkins, the deadly and malicious demon only known as HIM, the exo-suited superhero influencer turned full-time super villain Princess Morbucks, the petty gang of criminals known as the Gangreen Gang, average mobsters turned genetic freaks known as the Amoeba Boys, the beautiful but deadly gorgon known as Sedusa, and the petty street thugs turned meta-human pests known as the Rowdyruff Boys, there’s no limit to the enemies the girls have made during their short superhero career. There's even one who will return from their past, a family member the girls never got to meet and was heavily changed by his exposure to Chemical X, the super intelligent nefarious simian, Mojo Jojo. But no matter the threat, no matter the monster, no matter the world-ending disaster, you can always count on the day to be saved, thanks to the Powerpuff Girls!
