An alternate ending I've been working on for Birth By Sleep would've had somewhat different endings.

Terra was to be Master Xehanort's protege and help continue his crusade of The Grand Rebirth of the Universe. but striking down Master Eraqus, performing experiments on Ventus, destroying The Key Line (formerly known as the Land of Departure) and manipulating him, Aqua, and Ventus was too much for Terra to become any part of Xehanort's plan. So Terra fought Xehanort and won. Xehanort put up a good fight but he knew he had exhausted the last bits of life he had left and death was coming for him, so with sorrowful farewell, Xehanort struck his own chest with his Keyblade and sent his heart right to Terra, overtaking the body of the young Keyblade warrior. Xehanort had done it, he would live to see a grand future where a whole new universe would come into being after the destruction of the current one. Xehanort discarded Terra's armor and keyblade and prepared to leave. That is until a barrier formed and Xehanort turned around to find Terra's armor was alive and wielded his keyblade. As Xeahnort's heart was taking control of Terra's body, he learned much knowledge the elder Keyblade Master knew, including how to splinter one's heart into many pieces and using this technique, Terra split his heart in half and put it in his armor. The Lingering Will and Xehanort had their rematch and the Will won out in the end. Before the Will could save his friends, an intense light from Ventus and Vanitas' fight overtook the Keyblade Graveyard and everyone except the Lingering Will disappeared, leaving the armor to ponder on its failings as it waited for its chance to one day set things right, though it would be waiting 35 years for that chance. When The Lingering Will meets another Keyblader, this causes it great confusion as it doesn't know this new keybearer and it has a Keyblade meant for someone else. A great battle between the armor against the boy and his cohorts, a dog and a duck ,proceeded and The Lingering Will accepted defeat and would wait until the 7 Guardians and 13 Seekers were to come together for a grand battle.

Ventus had a hard life as an orphan of Scala Ad Caelum before the world's eventual disappearance. Many would claim that it was swallowed up by the surrounding seas and joined its submerged half, Daybreak Town. Ventus was taken in by Master Xehanort and put through rigorous training and experimentation to unlock the secrets of the heart. One such experiment took all the darkness in Ventus' heart and put it inside an armor, giving it a corporeal form as Vanitas. A being of pure light and a being of pure darkness connected by the tethers of their hearts has much untapped potential, like trying to bring forth the legendary blade Key's Cross (formerly X-Blade) After the battle in the Keyblade Graveyard with Vanitas cost Ventus his memories as he had to lock away his own heart to protect it from his former darkness. A bright light of their battle and their Keyblades clashing sent the two and others around them to random worlds, Ventus ended up in an island paradise known as Destiny Islands, he had no clue of who he was and his Keyblade was washed away by the tide before Ventus was found. Ventus started a new life on the islands and could only remember one name Van, so that was assumed to be his name. Years passed and Ventus became a fisherman and would start a family with a teacher and they would go onto have a son. What his name again? Zora? Gora? Bora? Either way, when Destiny Islands fell to darkness, Ventus was one of denizens of his world who remained and he started to find out more about his past life the more he explored other fallen worlds and would even find his old Keyblade. Though his memory was fuzzy, he wielded the weapon with such skill and when the worlds were restored, Ventus put the weapon away and tried to figure things out on his own, but to no avail. Things would really start to change for Ventus when his son returned from journeying to other worlds and told of this grand conflict between light and darkness.

Aqua would suffer the most out of the Wayfinder Trio as she would try to save the possessed Terra and end up fighting him in Radiant Garden where Xehanort would open a portal to the the Realm of Darkness to bring Heartless to aid him. Aqua defeated Xehanort, but before she could take him away from the portal, Heartless emerged and dragged the villain to the Realm of Darkness . Aqua followed and tried to save the fallen villain but aerial Heartless were attacking both her and Xehanort. Aqua made a desperate move and and put her armor on Xehanort and shifted her Keyblade to its Glider Form to get Xehanort out first and she would try for another way out. It worked, but Aqua was left alone in the dark to face against the armies of shadow. Luckily Aqua was able to run and find the ruins of her home, The Key Line, and even find Master Eraqus' Keyblade among the rubble. Using the Master Defender Key, Aqua transformed the ruins of the Key Line into a whole new location, one that would keep out the Heartless by presenting itself as a castle that would eventually destroy all who came in and were not welcome, this place would come to be known as Castle Oblivion. For 35 years, Aqua would be searching for a way out of the Realm of Darkness, but to anyone in it, time passed differently, 1 year in the Realm of Light was equal to 10 years of perceived time the Realm of Darkness. For Aqua, though she wouldn't age, she would be forced to deal with the perception of trying to escape after 350 years and that would drive anyone crazy, crazy enough to take any deal that meant freedom from the darkness. When Master Xehanort returned after his Heartless and Nobody died, he set about recruiting 13 Seekers of Darkness and Aqua was perfect to take as she was a Keyblade Master and recruiting her would mean that the 7 Guardians of Light would be down a member. So Aqua was given a piece of Xehanort's heart and she immediately took on some aspects of his appearance like his silver hair and yellow eyes and her skin paled as this process had a way if eating away at who someone was until all that's left was just an incarnation of Xehanort.

The three friends would eventually reunite and see how much each of them has changed. They're all much different people but the bond they share is still there, but will it be enough to fix their afflictions?
