Being stuck in the Phantom Space for as long as Xiro had been warped not only his mind but his body. Xiro's fur gained white streaks and stripes. The Phantom Ruby was fused to Xiro's heart and during his time in the Phantom Space he found even more chunks of Phantom Rubies that he used to empower himself even more and fix his damaged left arm that Shadow was responsible for. Xiro even created a new blade for himself as his previous one was split in half. Xiro would even up forging his broken blade into his new mask and dropping any hint of his identity as Xiro and would now be known as Phantom.

Returning to the world from Phantom Space, Phantom was causing all kinds of chaos and caught the attention of Sonic the Hedgehog who proceeded to battle the twisted jackal. Sonic was on edge with not just Phantom's abilities but also the Specter Soldiers Phantom summoned were also proving a challenge. So Sonic had no choice but to unleash the seven chaos emeralds and go Super Sonic. Super Sonic was more than enough to defeat Phantom, so the Jackal summoned a portal to Phantom Space as Sonic charged at him and closed it behind the yellow hedgehog. The world was without its greatest hero and before long it would fall to Phantom and his Specters.

Months passed and in that time GUN fell and the only defense the world had was the Eggman Empire and the Resistance, made up of many of Sonic's friends and allies, who were trying to holding it together in Sonic's absence. Shadow is still an outlier among the resistance and is doing his best to fight Specters and aid his allies but he feels responsible for all this happening with the part he played in Phantom's story.
