Description
This is a Painted Turtle carving I have done as part of the habitat for my upcoming Walleye carving. It is approx 6 in long, and is made of Tupelo. The claws were actually tips from round toothpicks that were attached with epoxy. It has been sealed, but needs to be painted. I used instructions from a carving book, but changed it quite a bit based on photos.Thanks to LadyLaryssa [link] for combining the pics.

It's misbehaving quite a lot recently...

I personally wouldn't paint it. Some staining in a darker brown shade would keep the wood nature of the piece.

Well - i have to paint it because it is going to be part of a bigger piece involving an underwater scene.

Yes - it might. If I was gonna do that tho, I would carve it out of Butternut instead of Tupelo. Better grain.
