I've red hundreds of fanfics in Fanfiction and fimfiction alike but never I've encountered such art that makes the viewer to awe in surprise when admiring this piece of art.
Let me explain my rating
Vision: the level of detail is exquisite in many levels and many ways, in fact the level of detail and finesse is so great I think you lied to all of us when you said it only took two days to accomplish the pice of art.

Technique: me not being a user of computer program's to paint or create art of this kind, I am greatly disappointed in you my dear artist. The reason why is fairly simple, your arts should be published along literature works of the same finesse as your drawings (if they already in fimfiction then I apologise)

Impact: all of the stories I've red regarding changelings consider them insect hybrids they're never given any kind of respect either by fear or power they are always considered and described as parasites that feed on love you are by far the only artist I've met in 20 years to give the changeling race the respect they rightfully deserve.

Originality: regardless of how elegant and flawless this art of yours is I can't give you a 5 star raring regarding originality because Queen Chrysalis and the Changelings already exist making your impeccable work of art an unoriginal piece of art; if you had painted a male version of Chrysalis THEN I could've given you a 5 star rating in this category as well.

PS: if you're interested in original ideas or concepts I can only recommend reading stories of your liking in any web page (though I recommend fimfiction.net) to get original ideas that would prove to be a true challenge since you'll have to create ever single concept using only the written description given by the author.

PPS: may fortune smile upon you

Have you read Mirror's Image on Fimfiction? It doesn't give the most positive light, but it is better than the episodes it was based on and it continues from there.

I quite love this piece. It is so freaking awesome! you deserve a llama badge for this. The detail is lovely, the colors are fantastic, and the scene is just mind-blowingly amazing! kudos to you, my friend. I enjoy this picture and I hope you make more like it! Positive feedback to you! positive feedback to you! positive feedback to you! Queen Chrysalis of the changelings is my favorite character. She's just so awesomely evil, and this work of art displays her personality perfectly! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/> This is just too perfect and wonderful and amazing and one of the best pictures of her that I have seen. Go you! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Wink)"/>

This painting is amazing in so many ways.

The beastly look of the changelings is very impressive, as well as Chrysalis' design.
The wings of both Chrysalis and the changelings are really good,
and the glowing on her horn and wings is great, even though the wings should have been greener, but it's great anyway.

The ground is very detailed, and the shade of the pod-pony looks amazing.

The sky:
The clouds are very well made, and the small changelings are still detailed (as far as we can see).

What I have left to say about this is:
Well done.

A very awesome rendition, nice level of detail, enough to add to the piece without going overboard, would have personally changed the wings and tail to a more greeny-blue but that's just me, no real negative comments, sky in the back could use a bit more but not really a negative as it's background, don't want it taking away from the overall piece, incredible, beautiful, well done and certainly impressive.

Perhaps a little more colour in ground? again, just opinion but still excellent piece.

Chitin-y shell looks really good on character and Changlings (reminds me of Tyranids for some reason)

Perhaps bit more detail on the pony in the pod?

This is very impressive. The way you made the changelings look more beastly in your drawing rather then making the original changelings is very original. The landscape is a perfect image of the nest of the changelings. If I were to think what the nest was suppose to look like this is what it would be. The swarm of changelings in the background are the part of my greatest interest because they are not all alike.
Some have beak snouts, some pony snouts, and others. Now, the queen chanegling is amazing by far. The way most is shimmering over the wings and the horn give it that ghostly feeling, and the way you made the texture on her body is amazing, not only holes but a arrangement of scales, crevices, and spikes make her a good version of her. The image of the chanegling queen is complete with her standing above the victim in the cocoon. So overall this is a amazing piece that was worth to make.

this is awesome it is so realistic and somewhat scray. it has great detail, blending, shadowing and i can cleary see every thing in this picture. im stubborn when it comes to adding stuff to my favorites but not with this picture. it is awesome e.deviantart.net/emoticons/c/c… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Cool)"/> realistic and evil which is the way i like most stuff. i shall add you to my deviant watch. the glow such as on her horn and wings are awesome and the eyes and structure pop out. and it is lively and dark. i like the detail mainly and how realistic and dark it is.

the dettail in fantastic, you even did a fantastic job on the details in the background, it dosent look like you missed ANYTHING, the lighting is perfect, i simply LOVE it
it also reminds me of Xenomorphs, do tue the Way the skin of a changling is portrayed, and the surface looks like that of Xenomorph Prime, you have done an amazing job of making the "evil Shine" in this picture, you deserve a medal.

i hate ponies, but if the kind of effort you put into this picture could go into Evil charecters, i'd be a brony in no time

I love it! It reminds me of Starcraft judging by the art style. I really do love of how whats her face is shown as the focus. I also love the background with its many changelings going around it. It is pretty cool and I love it. The alien background is amazing as well. I do love the atmosphere as well: A dark feeling from what invasion is going to happened. And I see that a pony is captured because of how he/she is a threat to the changelings. You must look at Starctaft art because of the style of this art.

A comment alone doesn't do pictures of this quality any justice.

Vision:
It's a rare talent for someone to be able to think up something in there head, then put it on paper without flaw, but you've done it here.

Originality
I predicted ideas for art like this would come up after seeing the season finale, and I imagine it has elsewhere, but this is beyond my expectations nonetheless. I love what you've done with the baby alicorn though, very resemblant of The Matrix.

Technique
Unbelievable. The detail, the shading, the color, it's all simply unreal.

Impact
The moment I seen it I was speechless. So grim atmosphere and eery nature of it all is just perfect and puts you right into the picture.

Simply put, it's flawless. The color is outstanding, the detail is beyond imagining and the overall idea is just subliminal. There isn't anything I would say needs changing or fixing.

going to point out the some of the artistic points of this, and my personal opinion.

artistic:
- the color palette used for this are well used. that touch of blue along with the land and sky really add feeling to this.
- the design of the queen and menions are pretty good. the style used on this is top notch
- that random unicorn you have in the cocoon is a nice element used in this image. kinda adds the "yup... your all f#$ked"
- those menions also make a good dark cloud. and a scary one at that one you know that they are not storm clouds.

personal opinion:
First off, your hired. This is hellish good and blows my art waaay out of the water, no problem. i'v seen your other works, and this is a top for me. I just love this image. Its got the evil vibe, but you cant help but go, thats badass. even that one unicorn makes me think that they have taken over all of the land, and that cloud of minions would defiantly scare me dead. of all the Chrysalis art i'v seen so far, this is damn near, if not, at the top of the list for best. You are defiantly one hell of an artist.

Vision:
just look at that thing, it great. 5 out of 5 from me

Originality:
there may of been a flood of chrysalis art, but this style and concept, i have not seen. 5 out of 5 from me

Technique:
its good. damn good. but there is always room for improvement. 4.5 out of 5 from me.

Impact:
Im writing a critique to tell you its awesome. 5 out of 5 from me

Thats my critique. my opinions can me up for debate, but hay, better then nothing right. thanks for time in reading this and hope you have a good one ^_^

O, so you want a professional Critique that nitpicks every asact of this image including color, tone, mode, contrast, technique, style, form, placement, setting, size ratio, relation, and even every single placement of pixel, that when all said and put into words of which would end up being several 1,000's of words long, just for a proper, well spoken Critique that you are apparently asking of me. I'm sorry, but i dont want to put forth that much effort into and image, especially sense i have other shit to do. I at least gave my opinion of it, and gave positive feed back of the image. were are you, no comment or Critique, accept here were you'r telling me "hey ass-kisser! that's not a Critique, learn how to write better", all while on my end of the screen, i'm giving you the finger, and thinking "one up me then instead of bithing about it. IF you want a good Critique, and i mean a GOOD one, better start doing a shit tone of artistic research and start writing son, other wise... "cool story bro".

It's called critique for a reason. It's to help the artist improve. You offered nothing of the kind, you just gushed about how much you love the image. If you have the time to write walls of text on this matter, why don't spend your time instead doing what critiques were meant for?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Template93 In reply to Black-Dragon167 [2012-04-30 19:47:38 +0000 UTC]

tell you what, lets make a deal. If you can write a Critique, pointing out the good (artistically), the Bad (Artistically), your personal opinion, the reasons why your giving him the rating for all 4 criteria, and have a minimal of 1200 words... I will delete this Critique, and do a new one. how does that sound.

sorry if i was sounding rude, but i felt like your telling me i know jack squat about how to Critique. a good image deserves praise (and you know it does, this compared to your art and my art, this kicks our ass's no problem). I have much to do in a short amount of time, and if i have to spend an hour and a half of my time (time i can use on my homework involving storyboarding, animation, and 3D-modeling), then i will take that time, to write a proper Critique.

sound like a plan.

This is pretty much the picture we've all been waiting for since the episode aired. How do you critique... I don't even...

First of all, that detail. Good god! It's so beautiful! Everywhere I look on my new desktop, there are beautiful paint strokes! The only thing that makes me do anything other than fangirlsqueal, are the bits that look incomplete, such as the bottom right-hand corner, parts of the ground, some of the background. But let's be honest; most of us didn't see that on first, second, or tenth glance: I certainly didn't in the first hour I was staring at it. The strokey look of the background fits the art style, and it also forces focus on the massive hordes of changeling ponies, so I don't personally mind. As a foreground piece, however, I do wish there was a tiny bit more creepy-insectoid detail on Chrysalis's wings.

This is truly an epic and horrifying piece. This will be what I show my not-brony-yet friends, while playing the original mix of Rainbow Factory. How can you look at this and not go, 'Eww! How awesome and gross and fascinating and amazing!' This picture perfectly encapsulates and delivers the loveless, locust-like changelings as almost starcraftian monsters. And while Chrysalis is not the most original subject at the moment, the gross, freaky aspect of these creatures hasn't been done beautifully until now. The changeling's body design here is freakish and perfect. So many plates and joints and sharp things! And the colors are also perfect - the almost diseased, sickly-looking colors of the background contrast the changelings well and adds that disturbing alien feel.

I know I wasn't the only one that looked at this and went OHMYGODWOAH. Even the thumbnail I stared at in amazement before clicking. While the straight-on side-view of this horrifying swarm is not the most unique or impacting of angles, (Like, say, looking down from the peak of a hive or the air) the impact of this is nevertheless striking. The straight-forward view actually gives a stronger impression of the singularity of the Queen and her Hive, and their drive forward to conquer and devour.

Overall impact is truly amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better rendition of the changelings. Outside the cupcakes realm, I couldn't have asked for a more disturbing piece of My Little Pony art. Though parts of the background look unfinished, it doesn't look terribly out of place, but almost adds to the chaotic aesthetic. I think this was my first critique - I couldn't help but write a few hundred words on how awesome this picture is.

Keep up the amazing work!

Oh sweet Luna.... (yes, Luna)
This is awesome.
First, the background: That scenery just with the perfect color, that f**kin large army (it's reminds me of the things in the avengers movie), those... things in the floor, and the hostage in the (egg?) make an evil scene with an excelent use of the contrasts and details.

Chrysalis: You made a better version with the holes in her legs, you did an amazing job with the wings, tail and body. I must admit that the style of the neck and the face with very small eyes make her like more like a mounstruous monter than like a evolutionated intelligent evil swag queen [if that was your intention you totally nailed it].
Generally: Cool

Dude. You're awesome.

I love everything about this. I love the coloring; it makes the Changelings seem like some sort of pestilence sweeping across Equestria, leaving barren wasteland wherever they travel. The scene is phenomenal; thousands of Changelings swarming across the barren landscape with Queen Chrysalis leading them, draining the the last of love from some poor soul that has been encased in amber.

This seems like the more natural form that the Changelings should have taken; they seem like a mix between dead, twisted ash trees, moss and insects; much more scary and appropriate than than black ponies filled with holes. I get that it's a kids show, but really. They looked like they were made of black cheese.

I've loved all your pony art, from the shot of Discord, Celestia and Luna to the one of the adventures of Trixie. But this is by far my favorite.

Maybe not the best analogy, but Morpheus's lines regarding the machine takeover and powerplant designs from the Matrix came to mind here.

  • "We don't know who struck first, us or them. But we do know it was us that scorched the sky. At the time, they were dependent on solar power. It was believed they would be unable to survive without an energy source as abundant as the sun."
