papyrus in the game has his moments where his eyes look like real eyes. the date scene is a prime example

Yeah I know but still the majority of the time they look like dots, and Swaps are normal practically 100% of the time as well.

Honestly, it's probably more of a "for the benefit of the audience thing" that there is a difference in eyes.
(Kinda like YuGiOh did, I mean, the voice, eyes, and height all changed but no one really noticed until their souls were separated in the duel with Yami Bakura)
Also, US!Papyrus does look pretty convincing at times:

true, he can probably get a scholarship for acting, I mean, he is acting as someone he's never met before and is making assumptions most of the time but is still nailing it. I'm just surprised/impressed that Sans didn't see through him yet.

I sense two flowers will give Sans hints of Papyrus not being the original one.
The flower thats blue and repeats almost anything you say...
And the soulless flower who pops out of the ground and comes giving hints and ruins everything and teases you for not knowing and turns out to be Asriel but seems the polar opposite of him.
