hehehe it's working fine
When I use the search function though it transports me to the google search page - is that the way it's supposed to work?

How do you use this plugin after its installed?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Zlatty In reply to bluestix [2005-07-24 20:59:48 +0000 UTC]

you reopen firefox and then in the top right hand corner you can click on the little icon and then a list of search plugins pops up and then you choose the one you want to use such as 'dA news' type your query in the blank space and hit Enter

google search should show up

Hmm...I was really excited about using this, given the recent pull of the search function, but I don't know that it works for Firefox 1.0.4. I followed the installation information exactly, but when I restart Firefox, I don't see the new search engine functions in my little search bar. I'm on Windows and Firefox 1.0.4, as stated before.

Zlatty In reply to leliathomas [2005-07-10 04:10:29 +0000 UTC]

hmmm
thats odd
i have the same version of firefox and it they work

could you try installing again
makes ure that they are in the same folder as the plugins that came with friefox
(you should see google and amazon in there)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

leliathomas In reply to Zlatty [2005-07-10 05:29:44 +0000 UTC]

Yep, they're in my search plugins folder, along with Google and Amazon and the others that I've installed in the past. I've tried installing three different times, even rebooting my comp, but they just don't seem to get registered by my browser.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Zlatty In reply to leliathomas [2005-07-10 05:34:01 +0000 UTC]

hmmm

could it be that you have the most recent version of the software installed somewhere else ?

do this:

go to that folder:
slect amazon's two files
CTRL+C
CTRL+X
restart firefox
if they amazon search is not in the submenu you got the right folder (you can CTRL+V the items back into the folder)
if the amazon search is there then you need to find the correct searchplugins folder (maybe you installed the new version of firefox elsewhere?)

leliathomas In reply to Zlatty [2005-07-10 05:51:08 +0000 UTC]

It's the right folder. It's got a search engine I installed just days ago there (a Wikipedia search extension). Being anal, I always intall in the same places on my hard drive.

Hmm, I'll search around a while, otherwise I'll just leave it for another day. No worries. I already used Google to search DA, but this would definitely be handier! I'll play around with it, but don't worry if I can't get it going.

Zlatty In reply to leliathomas [2005-07-10 15:17:58 +0000 UTC]

That is so weird. Maybe one plugin is messing up the rest. You are the first to say that my plugin does not work. Try this;

create a backup folder on your desktop
close firefox
go to the searchplugins folder and move every plugin to this folder
now opwn firefox
see whats going on in the search box
close firefox
put some plugins from the backup folder to the original folder
open firefox
see whats going on

I think I'm going to mention A LOT of these handy stuffs in my next journal when I write one. I think I'm addicted to these DA plugins...mostly because this is where I spend all the free time.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kipinae In reply to Zlatty [2005-07-05 16:20:01 +0000 UTC]

I will.

You wouldn't happened to know a plugin that puts lots of handy tools above every comment, journal etc. and by a simple click you get the codes for different stuff you can put in there, like thml and smileys for example? I had it but then I reformatted and lost it. Can't even remember the name anymore. x.o

Do you know if this would function with the most recent version of the Netscape browser, which has a setting that lets it function like Mozilla Firefox?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Zlatty In reply to monkeycat52 [2005-06-22 03:50:38 +0000 UTC]

hmmm
i dunno
there is only one way to find out .... to try it

see if there is a 'searchplugins' directory in your netscape folder

go for it

monkeycat52 In reply to Zlatty [2005-06-22 23:55:09 +0000 UTC]

Alright, it definitely works with netscape 7.2 and below, but with the new one, there is no searchplugins folder, only a just plain-old plugins folder... Any assumptions on whether it would work if I crammed the files for this in there?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Zlatty In reply to monkeycat52 [2005-06-23 00:53:58 +0000 UTC]

i have no idea
you might want to google to see if you can get to some how to
just do a search for "search plugins for netscape ___" where the blank space is the version number

monkeycat52 In reply to Zlatty [2005-06-23 10:27:46 +0000 UTC]

Alright, with too much effort expended, I have figured out how it works, and it has to be a completely different file type... xpi or something. *beats things*
