"No, Tails... you... you're stro... stronger than you... think. Take... take the collar. It hel... it helps me connect... with the... Emeralds. Save our friends... promise me... save them"

So, yeah. Years and years ago (before the Fleetway Sonic comics got to the Chaos arc) I had come up with the notion that Knuckles' collar acted as some kind of psychic interface with the Chaos Emeralds (primarily the Grey Emerald; the control emerald). A few times during the Fleetway comics, Knuckles would save the day using the Grey Emerald to de-power Robotnik after Robotnik empowered himself with Chaos Energy.
During my own fan-comic strips, Knuckles once temporarily passed his collar and the Grey Emerald to Tails, because it would take both Sonic and Knuckles fighting their enemy (Super Sonic iirc) to give the person with the Grey Emerald the chance to fix things.
For this pic, I decided to make matters more dire. As he lays dying under rubble, Knuckles passes the torch to Tails in the hopes that Tails can save everyone else.

Done with coloured pencils, though the dusty blend on their heads didn't come out right and had to be re-done in Paintshop Pro.
