Manticore looks like my creachures in some detailes. That`s interesting C:

She, Red ([link] ) and This dude [link] are my three manticore characters I have had for a fair few years now.
I also based a monster species in a game website I once worked for on them. But it never was published.

I like the colour and look of the composition. The only thing that jumps out at me is the saddle and the guy sitting in it. [link] - is a good reference on how a saddle is made/sits and [link] is a good reference on where a saddle looks a little more natural on different animals. But the best reference are people riding/jumping horses or cattle. But its looking good so far.

Thank you Zonkey. I love the riding tutorial. I wish the tute saddle had more dimensions to it, but it was still useful. I had a go at fixing the saddle as well as fixing his leg to a more natural riding position. Click > [link] Tell me what you think of the update.

The saddle looks way better. It almost reminds me of an Australian saddle [link] I love how the background is coming too.
I would change the foreshortening in your arms. They are not bad but could be improved. When turning a horse (or cat in this case) it is similar to turning a bicycle. Currently how your cat is holding his head, he would be going straight, but how your man is holding his hands, he is doing a dramatic like turn to the arm that is raised (left I think).
[link] - the girl in the middle has a similar arm pose to what your rider has. See how both her arms are closer to her waist, not to high, and closer to the horse's neck. I can see that you were going for and interesting look for the arms, but riding would be very uncomfortable(in my experience) pull up to high for too long. That's usually a high speed/rodeo thing. Something you could do to make a more dramatic pose is have your man holding the reins in one hand [link] and pointing with the other. Like he was telling his cat to go where he is pointing, and the cats eyes are following. That's just my opinion, take what you will from it

My only crit is that the dude's legs seem a bit short/small.
But I love the unity of colors-- the bottom is predominantly cool while the sky is predominantly warm, but there's a bit of each other in them. Good balancing.

Not so common to find this on DA
I think the visible leg is a bit to short compared to the upper body part. For me it looks pretty short.
But none the less I can't wait to see this one finished. You improved so much since you left over that one year and I'm so happy you're back and share your awesome art again. Also enjoying such detail pictures your working on. Keep it up :>

I wont ask for critique on small pieces only because those would be self teaching quick things that only really benefit me while I am actually doing them. Once they are done I meditate over my lines and I find my own way through my art. Instead of getting other people's opinions and words mixed up with my art. It can be troublesome since I am the kind of personality that takes on a comment made (Good or bad). So I can relate to people not liking critiques in that sense. More or less, it's my personal way of trying to escape becoming a copycat artist, or too influenced by others. Probably sounds weird to you or terribly written xD Its all hard to explain. lol Sorry.
But on the flipside. I love learning. When I hit a project I love for my peers to be critical. So I appreciate your comments and critiques SO MUCH <3 Your feedback is very helpful. I found that fixing the guy's leg he ended up being too large for the cat, so I transformed his torso down a size. Tell me how you think I went on this update here > [link] I am still worried he may be too large for the cat.
