Description
This is the third addition this week to my family. This is an adoption from the-shiznite She preferred to let someone adopt him whom she'll still be in touch with so she could see how her baby boy is doing ^_^ His name is 'Ea' but we'll see what my hubby comes up with now that he has discovered this additionRelated content

Dang, he must have a fantastic temperament!
From what i've heard about GTPs, they have pretty nasty attitudes lol along with Emeralds.
Gorgeous boy though, been wanting to add one to my collection for awhile.

This babe was raised from hatchling age by his previous owner which may have contributed to his easy demeanor

Congrats on your new beastie! You've been wanting one for a while, right?
HA HA HA, I love the statement "now that he has discovered this addition." Not gonna lie, I have said that myself on multiple occasions (usually involving rats). How is his temperament? I've only handled one of these guys, and that fellow was a real nasty customer (still gorgeous, though). Those eyes <3

This little green dude has the best temperament I've ever heard of for a GTP. Its like having a ball python. He can get a little huffy on a rare occasion but you'd be huffy too if you were disturbed in the middle of the day when you're trying to sleep. I had to learn that he is strictly a night-time animal unlike the rest of my collection that can be out round the clock. Hes the only pet I have (other than Poppy) that has a strict sleeping schedule.

That might be the prettiest BP morph I've ever seen.

Thanks!!! But he's a different type-o-python

If by BP you mean ball python, then you're mistaken (this is not a species of ball python). Green tree pythons are much bigger than the ball pythons and are also a little harder to handle. Ball pythons don't tend to bite as much as green tree pythons.
Needless to say, both ball pythons and green tree pythons are amazing creatures. I have a ball python myself!

Yes, he is a Green Tree Python (Morelia viridis) not a Ball Python (Python regius) - but GTPs don't get bigger than ball pythons, they are quite a bit smaller usually. Female GTPs can get as big as a small adult female Ball but I've seen some monster size adult female ball pythons!

My biggest female is around 6 ft and weighs close to 4000 grams - the biggest I've heard of GTP females getting is around 2000g, most smaller though. Most of my female BPs are between 1700-3000 grams and boys most of them aren't bigger than 1400g but I used to have a male (My first BP) who was close to 2000g. I'll have to get a better pic of my big girl! This was when she was around 3000g when I got her, so try to imagine her 1/3 bigger than this

....WTF dude. when i bought my first pair of BPs from the breeder the females did appear that big (but may have been due to my perspective on size?) but holy shit! big BP is big!

Ok, so you're saying the BP's are way heavier than GTP. But are the also larger in length?

the-shiznite In reply to BouncyCG [2014-04-26 01:03:15 +0000 UTC]
BPs average 3-4+ ft males, 4-5+ ft females but as mentioned some females get 6 ft, bigger sizes have been claimed but I've yet to see photographic evidence lol. GTP males tend to be smaller 3+ ft females can be 4-6. There have probably been bigger females, there are always exceptions they definitely aren't as heavy bodied as the ground dwellers though.

O_O omfg!! Such a gorgeous bby. I want one of these beauts so bad... but I've only ever housed smaller snakes like corns and garters.
These are one of my favorites. I have NO clue how to care for them, but I know there's a lot of informational blogs and what not for them.
I'd wait a few years, cuz I just had a baby in January, and I kinda would like for her to understand to respect such a gorgeous creature!

hi there! glad you love my new baby ^_^ GTP and ATB (Amazon Tree Boas) are for a more experienced snake keeper. Only reason why I have one is that this was already raised and he fits within my scope of experience and comfort level (plus I still keep in touch with the previous owner so I can shoot her a note if i have a question). If you choose to get into GTPs or ATBs, be open to the fact that they are high maintenance and known to be difficult at times.

Yeah no problem! Thanks for the insight!! Yeah I know they can be
pretty aggressive/won't eat sometimes. I am fine with that, I think.
I can't say cuz I've never really handled boas or pythons much. I'd LOVE
to, but I just haven't yet. Definitely will do my research, and maybe work
at a exotic pet store or two, before getting one. There's only one that I know
of in my direct area, which is locally owned. The store owner LOVES snakes,
so maybe I can learn from them!
Is it true pythons are more aggressive than boas?

ZombieHun In reply to Buhaaghule [2014-04-24 19:22:41 +0000 UTC]
hmmm, I own more pythons than boas HOWEVER the majority of my collection is ball python. and whatever more aggressive species I own are adopted and already raised and as i stated earlier, fit within my comfort level with the exception of one python but I am still working with her (my woma). But to answer your question I do not think one species is more agressive than the other. Some species may have a reputation but at the end of the day each snake is an individual and should be treated as such. I own an Argentine boa and their reputation is that they are aggressive, but my individual is not. When dealing with a larger animal, great care should always be practiced regardless if its mean or not as animals are capable of making mistakes too which can result in injury to their handler. Sorry if that was a bit more info than you actually asked for. I'm big on safety.
Not many GTPs and ATBs are big for handling. Breeders will even tell you they're more of a show-piece rather than a cuddle critter. So if you dont mind just eye-candy and have the time to devote to proper ownership, should try one out. but probably ask around about what would be a next tier snake to own to slowly work your way to that level of experience. I do not recommend just jumping in lol. but your suggestion of working at an exotic pet shop would be a nice beginning for you

Ah no, it's completely fine! I enjoy getting as much info as possible.
I know you're serious about your snakies!! Thanks for letting me know.
Safety is indeed really important!!
Yeah I wouldn't wanna be held much either. They're just massive, and
full of muscle. Just wanna chill out and have noms every now and then!!
I will let you know in the future if I ever get that job, and what snakes I
will possibly work with.
