that's incredible!!! nice work!!! What would be really cool is if whenever he inserts the lightsabers into the robot that we would see a quick flash and then sparks coming out.

this is class. one suggestion. skybox, or sky dome. the backround and environment take away from what is otherwise really cool.
you should be able to find plenty of readymade environment maps here
[link]
i have only used environment maps in game engins, but i am sure they are more or less the same.
hope this idea helps

this is exciting to see 3d animations on dA. the movements look good. i sometimes wonder if it's harder to animate in maya. it could use some textures and some blood spray to make it look like those light sabre's are connecting more.

btw how big is the Flash SWF file for this, and what is the size of the window that the video plays in... like 320 x 240?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

zoomzoom In reply to blindsyte [2006-08-12 21:47:29 +0000 UTC]

yes. thaNK you.
the res is indeed 320 x 240. this file is about 6mb i think... mov format is good too, but does not play within the windows.. u have to download it.

for animations i only use maya so don't know any other way... its easy for me.

yea... textures is something i skipped on, but blood effects i am lookin into... thanks again..
r u an animator yourself?

your rigging must be well done and very intuitive, the reason I bring that up is because I'm trying to rig 3 different characters right now, (2 for school) and it's such a pain in the ass.......

Just throwing this out there lol, U know I would build a model for you if u would write a tutorial (step by step on how u would rig it for similar animation). I think my weakest point is proper constraints, rigging for fingers....... (i'm not trying to push, just request for maybe sometime in the near future; i mean u could use something like that for your portfolio lol)

Oh and the favorite u gave me means a lot coming from you.......Thanks....

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

zoomzoom In reply to 300beatspm [2006-08-15 06:30:15 +0000 UTC]

Well... I know how to rig, but I am not a rigger... I know enough to work with them, but most of the rigs I have, been done by others...
I do freelancing and have a rigger on my team... so he can just do it for you... but i would hate to charge a student u know... plus it would be cheating on your end.

what I can do is animation... you give me a rig to work with and for that I will animate it to do whatever for your demo reel... free! that's how I got %70 of rigs I have now..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

300beatspm In reply to zoomzoom [2006-08-15 17:44:30 +0000 UTC]

well what I really was meaning to say was not to rig those for school, but a general tutorial for most riggin purposes................. or your friend set up a general tutorial............. really, I ask because I want to be able to do it my self........thanks for the reply...................

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

zoomzoom In reply to 300beatspm [2006-08-16 00:26:29 +0000 UTC]

so... they don't teach rigging at the school that you are doing this projects for?... i am just wondering...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

300beatspm In reply to zoomzoom [2006-08-16 02:26:05 +0000 UTC]

not really, it's kind of hard to explain the situation in a single paragraph.....lol...... it's kind of like my entire major leads into a class based senior project animation. We had one quick crash course in rigging (very basic stuff)...... and this was around the same time we were being introduced to basic forms of modeling, lighting, animation, texturing, rendering (at the end of last year)........ so their prepping was badly planed; too fast and still not enough information to efficiently work on a production like this... I haven't recieved any additional training since their quick introduction to the core material... it's now all about trying things out continuously until they work; which blows; anything I submit on Deviant Art is on my own accord).....

a few of us out of 30 or so are pushing the animation project forward (if we weren't pushing I don't think the project would be worth while)...... the other 20 or so waits for our rigs, environments, texturing, and lighting solutions.... (which I am struggling to produce lol)

I wish sometimes I could meet up with people like your self, because i'm usually alone in any of the work I do....... I have few people around me with any passion to work independently from school...... really, nobody I know does anything similar to the stuff I post on DA..... I tried to keep all that to a minimum lol, there's so much more I could explain...... but that's really the gist of it........

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

zoomzoom In reply to 300beatspm [2006-08-16 04:13:52 +0000 UTC]

wow... that does blow... sorry man..
what school r u in?...

and yea.. post your questions and i will try to help you out myself... i can aslo refer u to some friends in the industry who are already working as riggers...they can answer questions i don't know...

if you want to really learn cg.. i recomend [link] this is the school i finished! its one of the best!

Thanks, I appreciate the lack of selfishness I usually encounter in other artist I speak with online....... most unwilling to reveal their secrets because for most I think it's their entire livelihood....lol some I think get jealous easily, and want to retain that step above ya......... anywho, thanks.

-I guess one question is about shoulder rigging, what's your process or what have u heard of?
-Problem solving spine rigs to not screw up during movment......lol, I basically have a problem with the spine/collarbone/neck area ........ and what constraits to use..
-*The biggest one is a convenient way to rig fingers......*

And if I can do anything for you, just ask........ The school I go to is UCF, i'm in a brand new animation program called Visual Language and because it's new...... u know how that goes. It's still better than anything else they've offered in regards to Digital Media....but i'm trying not to vouch for it......My original majors where Marine Bio, and then Internet and Interactive Systems.......(a shitty web design major) Oh and for grad school i'm probably enrolling at F.I.E.A., which is for videogames........ but it's the only one of it's kind........ i've visited all except for full sail....... I hear it's a good school if your self motivated...... which everybody should be lol Later.....

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

zoomzoom In reply to 300beatspm [2006-08-17 06:43:01 +0000 UTC]

Yea... I graduated from full sail and its true what they say... its hard and not really a party school, but its worth it... almost everyone I know found a job in the field...

So ucf is in Orlando right? Just down the street from full sail... I be in town this Friday... if you want, I can pass some of my notes from rigging classes... as far as questions go... email them to me to sergefs@yahoo.com that would be easier... explain the problems in details…

zoomzoom In reply to talikira [2006-08-09 07:04:57 +0000 UTC]

Well... its hard if you are one person... coz those models need to be modeled, textured, rigged and only then animated... its a lot of jobs to get one thing done... luckily I had those models ready to go.. So all I did is animated them... that can be hard to get it to more proper I guess... it really just takes a lot of practice...

Wicked animation. The monster looks cool as fuck, but the soldier dude looks a little bit stiff. Not that I don't admire it. I would never be able to come anywhere near this stuff myself.

Anyways, it was nice to see this. You don't find that many animations on dA.

WOW!!!! I love the entery secuence... It has so detailed situations!!!! AMAZING!!!!! GREAT!!!!! SUPERB!!!!!! And this is real... I mean... It can be real all those movements and situations... I think you should add some movement to the little robot when the beast jump and fall on the ground again... By his weight, I think the little robot could have some kind of reaction toward that event. Also, the camera can shake... The part when the little robot is giving his back to the monster and he take out those swords is great!!!!

I see you like putting a little heroe and a giant beast, fighting... Something related with you, I think...

hehe... thanks a LOT... your critiques are the best... and yea.. agree about the jump.. again like with the Rider animation... time in the air is my problem. i need to work on that more... and its not really the little hero vs big guy type of thing. it just happened that way.
