The Common Checkered Whiptail (Cnemidophorus tesselatus) is one of a number of parthenogenic North American whiptail species that evolved when non-parthenogenic species came into contact and hybridized some time during the last Ice Age.Β Whiptails are normally very skittish lizards, but this one seemed quite indifferent to my presence.Photo taken in Van Horn, Texas.
