Description
An Eastern Collared Lizard (Crotaphytus collaris) has decided that I've gotten close enough and so gives me little warning hiss. These tough lizards are the primary predators of many smaller reptiles which they chase down in a bipedal fashion. They are also well known for their aggression when corned, suddenly turning and leaping at their attacker. It's no wonder people often call them "little dinosaurs"!This is a captive individual at the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum in Pima County, AZ. Wild collared lizards (of any species) still elude me...

I used to have one, and it bit me often enough that I was scared of handling it. Drew blood often as well.

I'm not sure, he was in an outdoor Chuckwalla exhibit sort of near the back of the park along a dirt trail.

Nice photo. I tried to get photos of these guys last time I was in southern Nevada. They run so fast I couldn't get close. still very cool though.

I have caught exactly one in the past fifty years, when I was ten or eleven. Still can not get them to hold still for a photo.
