Satoshi won't lose to a guy with an afro.
But Mito also won't lose to a guy with spiky hair. Especially when said guy insults his afro!
Oh, also, there's a flying camera bot that films everything that happens in the stage so people at home can watch from various angles as well.
In this world, there's going to be a lot of differences in technology depending on the location. Some places have today's modern technology, some have 1900's technology while others have very highly advanced futuristic technology, and then there are those that have little to no technology at all. Such as tribes. And others.
You'll see eventually, as the story progresses.

EDIT: Changed dialogue in the last panel, from "If the challenger wins, he or she will not only win" to "If the challenger wins, they will not only win".
