Yep, these old boxes are being replaced by modern, crappy little half-shelter types everywhere.

Ah, the iconic British telephone box! Easily recognizable around the world.
I really like this photo, and removing the color from all but the telephone boxes adds interest and uniqueness. It was an excellent idea. The vertical format really works, and I like that you left quite a lot of room around the boxes. Yes they are the subject, but the composition places them at a distance and seems to suggest that they are receding, which is one point of your photo. It is sad to think that they may one day disappear, another victim of modern technology. The cobblestone street in front is a wonderful feature, and is that a bit of snow at the base of the tree? Brrr!
On an aside, I was at a furniture auction in Dallas with my sister last year and one of these red boxes went on the block. Bidding was robust and it sold for quite a lot, even thought it wasn't in very good condition. They are remarkably sturdy and well made, and seem to have changed very little over the decades. Last month I was out of town and my mobile phone battery died, and since I had forgotten the charger it took forever to find a working payphone as most have been removed or are broken.
BTW I voted at that other site and gave you a five! Well done!

Yes I love the British telephone box, and the good news s most of them are now protected by law so will not be going anywhere .
Thanks for the feedback . I had been looking for something red to shoot for the contest on the other website because it is my favourite colour
, and when I saw these twin boxes in my local village I knew they would be perfect
. I do quite like the composition actually but it was just luck that they were arranged so perfectly
. I like living where I do though because there are actually quite a few little red telephone boxes round here, oh and the little red postboxes, i love those too, must take a picture of one of them sometime
Thank you very much for the vote *crosses fingers hoping to win*
here, have a cookie!

Glad to hear the boxes are protected. Hopefully they will remain right where they are.
That's right your postboxes (we call them mailboxes here) are red as well. Here they are blue. Red is a good favorite color, and there is much red in nature (flowers and such).
The cookie is very LOL! Thanks. Have some milk (cookies go well with milk).

Ah we're lucky over here now because most of the telephone boxes are protected by heritage law, so hopefully not going anywhere soon . Even if they weren't I think they would still stick around because the thing I love about my local villages is that they all seem to be frozen in the time period of the early 20th century, i mean here we still have all he traditional markets, even my school is 600 years old, and the postmen still use bikes instead of those vans!

Yah, I know My wife and I are total Anglophiles (I guess that is the word.) We both love our English/Scottish heritage. We spent a couple of weeks over there about five years ago. Traveled from London up to Edinburgh, and into Wales. It was so wonderful some of the smaller villages we stopped in. The old roman walls in the middle towns, and abbies and castles everywhere. Can't wait to visit again.

Yeah, i love how unusual some of the villages can be over here. The odd thing is is that even though I have lived here all my life I have not yet travelled up to Edinburgh, its a place which I must see soon! I love London though I think it is a wonderful city with all the old buildings, i get too see it soon again when the Olympics are on too, which will be brilliant!

London was very cool, we were there for about four days. The fountain and statues at Trafalgar square were really cool. And of course the palace. But like you said, the villages were neat also once we got out into the country. Very unassuming and friendly. I just wondered around, watched kids practicing soccer(football) Talked to locals. Hehe, I attracted quite the crowd playing some shooting video game at this little place we stopped at. Edinburgh castle was amazing, I wanted to go everywhere and anywhere that had a sign saying I couldn't
Oh, and Hadrian's Wall and Stonehenge of course. I'm a big celt fan
Stonehenge was SOOOO much bigger than I pictured it.

Yes London is a brilliant city, did you get a chance to have a ride on the London Eye? I think that is one of the best ways to get a view of the city. Again stonehenge is a place I have never been too, but I did visit 'aylesbury stone circle' which was built at a similar time btu is far less well known, it was a brilliant experience because its not very well known at all so we were the only ones there when we saw it and we could go into the middle of the circle

Oh how fabulous to be able to enter a circle. We did not get on the Eye In fact we saw lots of regular stuff in London, pubs and shopping but didn't get to the touristy stuff like the Tower
Well, except Buckingham which was nice. I'd like to go to Salisbury Hill sometime, and we got to see lots of Warrick Castle which was fascinating b/c you could see the way it was built up from a simple hill fort to the castle it is now which I loved. Ah....you make me wanna go back so bad

Warrick was wonderful....I could soooo see myself, and about a dozen friends , living in a place like that. Maybe more, with only a dozen you might not see some of them for weeks!
