The second page of "Tempest Shadow and Shining Armor", a comic currently being commissioned by .
This time we don't have AWW bait like the puppy dog eyes from last page but we see the story moving forward, Tempest is learning that she's not the first not last to be reformed by the Mane Six or any other citizen of Equestria.

Yeah, this was mostly meant for advancing the story (hence the need for the background gags to lighten things up), but it's also meant to dive a little bit more into Shining's personality. For example, the pictures coming from the fact that he's a husband and father now, plus having always considered his family very important to him. Similarly, the books are from a combination of his nerd tendencies in high school and the fact that he spent a lot of time with Twilight in the Canterlot Castle library when Twilight was Celestia's student, so the environment is familiar to him.
Of course, all this is very unfamiliar and uncomfortable to Tempest, which makes her more quiet and introspective than she would otherwise be and primes her for a rehab effort. Shining works best as a mentoring and support figure, so I think in this scenario he can get a lot more credit than the showwriters usually give him.
