Edit:
Added some Hylian. Cookie to anyone who knows what it says!

Goodness, this took forever. If you remember, I actually posted a WIP shot of this all the way back in August zulayawolf.deviantart.com/art/… - I didn't get it finished until a couple of weeks ago. I was working on it for an entire 3 MONTHS.

I know that there are alot of errors, considering Midna and her helmet especially, and some major anatomical errors with Link, but I didn't notice them until after it was linearted. Nothing I could do to fix it after that.

I was kindof trying to experiment with my Prismacolors. While the piece turned out pretty well, it wasn't exactly what I wanted. Nothing to do but try again.

I was kind of considering adding some Hylian from the Hylian Alphabet zelda.wikia.com/wiki/Hylian_La… as seen in TP images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__c… . So, I dunno, do you think it would work?

Prismacolors and Microns on smooth Bristol. 9x12".

Thank you very much for your kind words, *zeldalink121 !

If I might make a suggestion on future critiques, try to analyze the picture. Pick it apart - look at the shading, the fur, the anatomy, the color, the composition. Try to point out what you like and what you think could improve - don't be afraid to tell someone your opinion on their artwork! Odds are, if someone's offering critique, they want advice on what they did wrong and how they can make it better.

Good luck on future critiques, and thank you!

Np I absolutely loved twilight princess because you got to walk around as a human link or a wolf link!

ZulayaWolf In reply to xXxElementalWolfxXx [2011-06-18 18:48:17 +0000 UTC]

I also thought that was pretty creative on Nintendo's part. Believe it or not, the wolf part is what got me to play TP, and that got me into Zelda. It's all thanks to my friend Lilly. I remember, I was watching her finish the Lakebed temple, and she said, "You know you can play as a wolf in this too." And being the wolf maniac I was, I immedietly wanted to see wolf Link. And I did in that little cutscene after the Lakebed Temple.

And then as I was watching her play through Arbiter's Grounds, I thought, Hey, this looks pretty fun. So I started my own game on her Wii and had so much fun I had to buy my own copy and an SD card so that I could transfer my data to my Wii and keep playing. And then I managed to beat the game before she did, even though I started it when she was halfway through. I'm just awesome like that.

Haha ya I just loved twilight princess..... and thats an interesting story. And did she get mad at you for beating the game before her by using her old saved data? The only thing I didnt like about twilight princess was the ending btw........

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ZulayaWolf In reply to xXxElementalWolfxXx [2011-06-18 19:18:06 +0000 UTC]

Naw, she was just impressed. And the ending was very sad, but I found it satisfying. What didn't you like about it? Other than the fact that, you know, Zelda doesn't say thanks? But I mean, it's not like that's new. But it'd be nice if she said thanks. Just ONCE. It's like, you spend a super long time on this, performing death defying stunts and braving the unknown just to save someone YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW. I mean, the whole "save the world" is an added bonus, but the main goal here is Zelda. Wow, that sounded...wrong. Okay. Ignore that statement.

xXxElementalWolfxXx In reply to ZulayaWolf [2011-06-18 19:23:14 +0000 UTC]

Well it just kinda left you hanging, and when you went back to your game, it shows that you didnt beat the boss........ that kinda made me mad because I wanted to at least have something like where at the end you could run around more or have something where you could change links appearance or something.......

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ZulayaWolf In reply to xXxElementalWolfxXx [2011-06-18 19:31:51 +0000 UTC]

Well, the problem with showing you had beaten Ganondorf would be

-you wouldn't have Midna, so you couldn't warp, transform, etc.
-the world would be saved, there would be no need for a hero anymore, the hero's clothes and Master Sword would probably be returned to their original resting places, in wait for the next hero/reincarnation of Link(yes, I believe it will happen that they will make a game that exists after TP in the timeline)
-you would not be able to face off against Ganondorf again, even if you wanted to
-all the other Zelda games work like that: they show no proof you've beaten the final boss, so there was conformity with the other games to worry about
-besides, after all that, Link might just want a break and go back to a somewhat normal life

And what do you mean "run around more"?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

xXxElementalWolfxXx In reply to ZulayaWolf [2011-06-18 19:37:36 +0000 UTC]

Well that would be true.... I was thinking that if they showed you beat the boss, you could run around and fight in a final level or something as wolf link or just regular link or something, just so you feel you beat the game....

I do like the piece overall; the composition, poses and expressions suggest a kind of complicity between the two, like they're great partners or something along those lines. One thing, though, is that I'd have liked to see a bit more work with Link's side; it looks actually kind of rough and unfinished.

The thing about Prismacolor pencils (or, well, colored pencils in general) is that they work best in layers. Lots and lots of layers. Some detail can be lost in between layers (like your wonderful fur textures) but with practice and experimentation you can retain more and more of such details while giving the finished product a much smoother look. It's been awhile since I've broken out my Prismas (though I love them dearly) but I think the key to retaining detail is in using high contrast colors to denote said details (like using a much darker green on the neck fur. That, and careful, precise, deliberate strokes.

Thank you very much for the critique!

Now that I'm looking at it again, I do agree with you that Link's coloring could use some work. I'm fairly new with Prismas, and I need all the help I can get. I have heard that it works best to work in layers, and I have been trying to practice that a bit with more recent pieces. I've also been trying to increase contrast in my works, I might actually revert to black and white for a bit to try and help that. Although some of the roughness is due to my ahojfaos;suk camera, it does look somewhat unfinished in person, and in future works I'll try to improve that.

Thanks again!

Oooooh, if you're going back to monochrome, you may as well break out the Cool Grey Prismacolors. They're rather fantastic for that sort of deal.

You're very welcome for the comments, it really is my pleasure to try and help you out. Heck, I think I'll even keep an eye on you! Can't wait to see how you progress as things go along!

The coloring and shading is beautiful, and it's very detailed, the only thing wrong that I see is that Midna's helmet looks a bit too small and Link's head is too small. Otherwise the picture is really pretty XD
