Description
Thank you for viewing my stamps, please check out the rest of my gallery!!Note: I do not claim this as my own idea. I saw it on a billboard somewhere. There wasn't any other text on it, so I don't know who made it.
That being said,
This is in reference to "God!", or the more common and too-highly-used (in my opinion) "Oh my God!"
I do admit, I do say "Oh my gosh", which isn't entirely all that better. I blame popular culture ingraining it into my head.
Another note: If you don't believe in God, don't get offended. It's still funny, right?

If someone threw the name of someone you respected and loved into a phrase in replace of *** (The aforementioned phrase) would you (or this other person) not be insulted. Using God's name in vain is an insult to Him and His children.

Just saying, the stamp is so right because people who don't believe in God (and a lot of people who do) will throw His name around like any other word without realizing that it is like doing the same with somebody else's name. I mean, how shocked would you be if you heard someone stub their toe at the beach and mutter "Obama!", "Buddah!", or "Muhammed!" under their breath? Those curses would send people into a rage (most likely that last one more than the others). So why do we throw "God" around so freely?

Well, it's part of Western Christian culture. We say his name a lot because we hear it a lot. It's pretty normal.

All I'm saying is that in the scheme of things, it shouldn't be normal.

Technically, God is not his real name, in the original bible his name is Yahwey, or Jehovah. So I never swear with his name

I say "Oh my gosh." I think it's funny how atheists, who are suppossed to not believe in God, frequently use His name or Jesus'.

Yea. Because Christianity is so common that we hear it from you Christians all day long. So why can't we say it too? This is just like lack people not letting whites say "nigger"

Nah, it doesn't work. And I'm not offended, I try to look the other way on what it's pointing to and just look at it from another view and quite frankly, it's quite funny.
And yes, I'm the one as well using Oh my God or Christ's sake. XD

It's just common respect for the people around you, I'd rather not have a person use my saviors name a swear word, and if you have any respect for me or anyone else of my faith, please use a different word.
Sums up my feelings about his. Fav+

I'd rather not hear Christians whine and cry all day, but alas, I live in the USA, where we're still fighting back Christianity out of our daily lives so we can TRULY have freedom of religion.

why get offended? You could choose not to get offended, and then we could all have the right to free speech without bible bashers trying to make us feel guilty.

Wait. You're telling us that we have a choice about feeling offended, but somehow you don't have a choice about feeling guilty? o_o
Free speech includes the right to say when somebody else's speech bothers you. Like you're doing right now, for example.

longwing In reply to Netbug009 [2011-10-29 06:16:37 +0000 UTC]
It sure does. That's why I'm doing it. You have a right to be offended and we have a right not to care. We are happy as we are saying "Oh god!" and "Jesus f*cking Mary Christ" etc etc. You can be happy too - just don't get offended. There's no point in being offended, because we don't care.

Netbug009 In reply to longwing [2011-10-29 19:54:57 +0000 UTC]
But you just said it makes you feel guilty, and that's why you dislike us pointing it out, and that would seem to lead to the conclusion that you do indeed care.
The fact that you commented on this kinda means something about it stirred you, when you could have just as easily ignored it.

longwing In reply to Netbug009 [2011-10-29 20:31:54 +0000 UTC]
Nope. I feel no guilt whatsoever. Please understand the difference between a bible basher trying to make us feel guilty, and us actually feeling guilty.
Two things caused me to comment: firstly, the fact that this note was not written by god, yet it is attributed to him. Secondly, it annoys me when people try to dictate what others can and can't say.
And why ignore it when I can have another good old argument, and show you crazies up for what yez really are?

Andrew-Graphics In reply to longwing [2011-10-20 21:25:03 +0000 UTC]
What? I get offended because someone finds it's appropriate to use my (and many others) religious icon as a swear word, which makes me uncomfortable, and disrespected. I also find it just plain crude, I mean really there are plenty of other things people could say, or rather show some control and not say anything. Many people seem to be able to do this, I admit I'm not one of them, but I at least I try.

longwing In reply to Andrew-Graphics [2011-10-20 23:23:57 +0000 UTC]
There are plenty of other things people could say, but freedom of speech means they can say what they want. One day you might realise this is a good thing. It means we can't be oppressed. If you don't like it, don't listen. You have the freedom to move elsewhere or to choose not to listen. I could very easily be offended by the fact that you believe I will go to hell, but I'm not. I just don't let it bother me.

Andrew-Graphics In reply to longwing [2011-10-20 23:27:48 +0000 UTC]
I'm sorry, but in most situations I don't have a choice whether I hear it or not, so it's the duty of the offender to be aware of environment (people around him/her) and be respectful of them. If he isn't, I'd say he/ she is really selfish, ignorant.
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
longwing In reply to Andrew-Graphics [2011-10-21 00:55:13 +0000 UTC]
Technically, the one being selfish here is you. You are making unreasonable demands that people should forsake their right to free speech on the grounds of your imaginary friend. Unless you can 1) prove there is a god, 2) prove said deity is actually offended by a mere mention of it's title, and 3)explain why your beloved fairy cannot defend itself.
Until then, you are nothing more than a bible bashing twat having a tantrum about people not sharing your delusional world view.
FSM bless you.

If you can't prove the existence of something, it is imaginary. I would have thought the existence of an omnipotent, omniscient being would be easy to prove, especially if he hates people saying his name in vain. But evidently I'm wrong!

Andrew-Graphics In reply to longwing [2011-10-24 03:29:17 +0000 UTC]
You are. Let us do some time traveling. Perhaps you'd like to tell that to Charles Darwin, when he first hypothesized organisms change to survive. Or perhaps Pythagoras, when the idea the world being round was not accepted. Before they could prove their theories, the had faith in them, that's why they bother perusing them. And today we see that nothing can be absolute, all except faith. So just because I may only have faith in a higher power that we may never fully comprehend, doesn't mean it's imaginary.

Darwin and Pythagoras didn’t have faith – they had confidence, based on *evidence*.
Also, what do they call zero degrees Kelvin again?
