The way it happened is better because katara truly loves Zuko but Mai stole him from her so that's why katara married Aang but in the legend of Korra I figured that just before ikki interrupted old katara from telling jinora about zuko's mom katara was going to tell her about her field trip with zuko in the end zuko is still alive and katara is still trying to find the words to tell him how much she loves him.

Wait a minute... That makes me wonder why the creators decided to have that dynamic, possible Zutara moment. Why would they want Azula to try and kill Katara, and have Zuko save her? Only to emphasize his change of heart? Prolly not... Gosh they're so confusing

In a Zutarian's brain, that scene makes complete sense, but only if followed by a scene where Katara become's Zuko's dominatrix.
In my brain, the only excuse I can make for this is "Zuko is a nice guy and would rather be killed by his sister's lightning than by a batshit insane Aang mourning over the loss of dat ass." Otherwise, it makes no f***ing sense for me. Zuko should have not given a single fuck about Katara's death.

even though I don't support Zutara this is a really emotional pic I don't think Zuko would have had any love for her though to be honest. Sure maybe they're bond was close but not close enough to have any physical attraction in a love interest kinda way anyway XD. Still really beautiful piece of work

Im not sure he would have actually had feelings for her either in the show. But he did care about her and her opinion of him. He went to extremes to prove himself to her, and ultimately risked his life for her. I think if the creators gave it the right push they would have ended up together. It just made more sense to have her be with Aang

Yeah I suppose that is true he did go to extremes to get on her good side but he did that with all of them with Sokka, Aang. I mean he needed to put himself through a lot of crap XD just so that they would trust him.

Have you seen the original pilot episode of TLA? Mike and Brian stated they were originally going to make the shipping ZuTara and that the episode of the fight between Azula and Zuko (when he gets shot with lightning) was going to seal the deal.

More than likely, that's a correct assumption. He'd have a 'I've always loved you' scene, then go to Mai for comfort.
