Description SPELLBOUND

Lying back on the mountaintop flat rock platform, still warm from the hot day's sun, I watched the full moon rising slowly out of the distant ocean. Giant flying elephant and dragon clouds moving across the horizon created spectacular patterns of ruffled lacey silver and black velvet on the vast shimmering Pacific expanses as it rose. Another Winter solstice.

How many more full moonrises, solstices,....., I wondered, pulling myself up on my stick as the cooling rock at last released me.

The memory of a special place nearby suddenly nudged my consciousness. Yes, that cave, I must visit it again, it might be the last time I could walk that far.

The huge moon rose higher & brighter as, scrabbling among the edging bushes, I finally found the entrance to the narrow path down into the steep, deep gorge.

Shafts of light piercing through the overtowering rainforest giants all around lit my way as I slowly probed and pushed through the lush understory ferns and made my descent.

I came to the silver whispering creek and, carefully picking my way along its banks,I followed a tiny trail defined by the luminous fungi & glowworms until I came to the place where the waters widened and flowed mercurially over a large smooth rock, suddenly disappearing through a round water-worn hole. [link] I could hear the roar from below as it dropped sheer into a deep pool.

Ah yes, this was the place. The memories flooded back. I knew where I had to go.

Scrambling under the ledges, down, down, I followed the roar of the plunging waterfall and finally gained access to the cave I sought below.

As if for the first time, I gazed awestruck at the amazing scene before my eyes.

Ultimate magic - a perfect crystal moonstruck column, formed by the waters descending vertically from the roofhole above, plunged into the dancing moonspeckled centre of a dark circular cave-floor pool.
Maxfield Parrish could not have created better!

Scintillating tiny fireflies hovered winking in the surreal light, zooming on the air currents around the crystal shaft.

The deafening song of the plunging waters drowned out all else, echoeing profoundly, amplified by the oval cavern walls.

Then it all came back and I was taken to that time, aeons ago it seemed, when you and I stood spellbound here in this same place, grokking and sorbing, enfolded in eachothers arms, enraptured in this magic, so many full moons ago.

Ah Windfish, my love, what magic holds you spellbound now.

Nope, my own life experience for this series. The off-planet ones are also inspired by things I've done, put in other-world context.

I'm so happy you enjoyed this

Ah~~~Wales~~~~I love singing too but the Voices of the Valley of the Fron Male Voice Choir who are visiting Oz at present & get a lot of air time, choke me up. My mother was an opera singer & I like to make my own music on computer to go with my animations. For listening I usually prefer music from Now (psychedelic trance or Yeh Yeh Yehs or Muse kind of thing) & have an aversion to most classical stuff. But every now & again I'll listen to the old songs from the Olde Country or World music - can't say I pin myself down to anything particular, with so much to choose from and all so accessible it would be dumb to confine myself to saying I only like rap or jungle. But these days I hardly listen to anything much, just the birds & wind & rain as I sit making fractals all day.

Oz is a huge place, so much to see. Altho certain aspects of the Oz culture are a turnoff. What I call OzzyBloke-itis, rooted in a sports mentality & driven by drugs & booze. But there are some pockets of less dumb behavior with intelligent people doing clever things in pleasant ways. After 7 years away back in my 20's & 30's I was mighty pleased to be back, a safe place and lots of room and much less crowded than Europe & Asia. Well it used to be, these days we have the same probs as pretty much everywhere. It's all very raw, especially the eastern coastal cites - infested with cars trucks & freeways - the architecture of the suburbs is mostly a turnoff & I look at footage of the old world with its ancient stones nostalgically. But there are advantages in modern plumbing

The Oz people are a huge mix, 21+ million people from something like 180+ different cultures all trying to work it all out, so problems do arise in that process. Underlying it all are the Aboriginal people and their Dreamtime culture struggling to maintain essence while swept along in the 21st century civilization. They have it hardest of us all.

I stay away from the inhabited areas as much as possible. I used to mostly climb mountains & walk rivers & surf - now, since I went lame, I just sit in the middle of my mountain rainforest wilderness making fractals & enjoying the last years, reflecting on my long life's adventures & watching the goings on of the ants nest on TV.

Home is home - everyone loves their own homeland. It's deep programming, like mother. I'd hate to be a dispossessed refugee like all those poor Afghanis we have trying to get in here, or all those Africans fleeing the famines & wars into Europe.

So never let that magic fade, go renew it with whatever touchstone you use to regenerate yourself.
It's the Solstice today, a very good time for such personal magic. Go on...DO IT!!!

Nice chatting ~~~ back to my obsession

Awww it really does sound like your life is a gorgeous one ^^ I'd love to see it for myself. I kinda like psychedelic Trance too, hell I love all kinds of Trance XD

Well one day I'm gonna move from Wales to the huge country of China! That's what I hope anyway, there is so much to learn there...where English isn't commonly spoken.

~~ Sounds like a plan. Just make sure you research it well before you go, at least learn some Mandarin. A lot to encompass - for myself I'd visit, but I wouldn't plan to live there, but I would (and have) live(d) in Japan, Vietnam or India. All to do with freedom, something I value above most other things.
Important ~~~ make sure you are very VERY fit and well-funded.

me , then reading the chronicle the scene came to life !

zweeZwyy In reply to Greenthumz [2009-02-21 22:50:07 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I find that interesting. I see a fractal sometimes & like it & find there is a story attached & it changes somehow next time I look at it, takes on the storyline & reflects it back. As if we have a glimpse into mind workings of the author via the image.

Have a look at this beautiful series [link] by CygX1 & I'm sure you'll see exactly what I mean - follow his links thru his story. Every one a jewel.

I'm amazed at how you've crammed the essence of the photo into this, and a perfect written accompaniment Had to look up 'sorbing'

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

zweeZwyy In reply to IDeviant [2008-06-20 22:44:58 +0000 UTC]

This means a lot , I'm chuffed.

The sorbing ref comes from Journey to Arcturus, [link] one of my all-time fav reads.

I tried not to change the original flame here, could have Photoshopped it more, adding jitzy ripples to the pond & wall refelections, as I wanted the essence of Apo to speak for itself. But couldn't resist a few star brush firefly fx.

IDeviant In reply to zweeZwyy [2008-06-22 12:39:29 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the brushes were a shade whimsical for my taste, but I was able to 'forgive' them for the overall result

zweeZwyy In reply to IDeviant [2008-06-22 22:33:13 +0000 UTC]

Difficult to get fireflies out of Apo. Imao this is the only way.

Always try for the purist Apo approach, but one must relax for the odd rare needs must event. As long as I put any extra methods in the Production Details I'm OK with it.

IDeviant In reply to zweeZwyy [2008-06-23 11:06:40 +0000 UTC]

Oh, absolutely - I'm not a purist, rather a minimalist. It's about seeing what can be done with the software, not working within any rigid framework
