Description
Ohmigosh! I actually finished that tutorial I kept talking about! *3*I have had so many people ask me so many questions about my avatars, that I just thought I would sum up everything I have been doing for the past few months into one really, really long JPEG!
If you have any questions about this tutorial please please tell me!
I hope you have fun with this and it's not too confusing. @3@ Pixels are complex creatures!
(And WOWW! I never, EVER thought you guys would like this little tutorial so much! ;333; I can't say thanks enough for ALL the comments and faves. (I never thought anything I did would make it past 1,000!) Really, I can't! Thank you all so much! ;0; )
Q&A:
I don't have ImageReady but I have Photoshop. Help me! Aaagh! D:
No problem! A super-awesome guy, West-Ninja made THIS super awesome tutorial for this one for photoshop users! Woooo!
Where the @#*$ is the pencil tool?!
Just press and hold down the painbrush icon until a little box comes up right next to it. Then you should be able to choose the pencil tool from the box! <3
I don't have the Layers, Optimize and History boxes on MY screen? Why?
GAH. I'm sorry this wasn't in the tutorial - just go to the top bar and click "Window," then choose the boxes you want to see from the dropdown menu!
How on earth do you merge layers?
Press CTRL + E to merge your layer down into the next layer, or go to Layers>Merge Down.
I don't have ImageReady. Whadda I do?
If you don't have ImageReady, you can always make your pixel on MS Paint and then animate it with Jasc AnimationShop. (It's free for 30 days.) Or, if you have photoshop, you can check out West-Ninja's Tutorial .
My background color came out white. Why? ;3;
You might have saved your avatar as a BMP instead of a GIF. And... that's bad. XD You can always go back into ImageReady and erase the white background and save it optimized as a GIF.
What do you mean by "change the opacity"??
I mean that you can change the transparency of the color you are using. In other words, how much you can see through it. (There is an "opacity" bar at the top, see?) That way, you don't have to make a new layer every time you want to change the opacity of your color. :3

*pokes back* sorry, I wouldn't know anymore :] I have Beneton Movie GIF now instead, which works better for me. It's free, too, and it can enable transparent background. I totally recommend it!

do you make your avatars like *0xo does? because then i don't know what the problem is. But maybe you could try opening the picture you animate in PS as a GIF, and then erase over what's supposed to be transparent. if the image is not aliased/vector, it might be "unclean" or smudgy. "cleaning" the transparent and then saving as a GIF might help. I can't think of other solutions

oh hah well actually no i drew the pic in sai because it was hard to draw in the program its so small..and the zoom box is lil...and i dont have paint or photo shop.-3-haha i dont knows wht a aliased vector isXD

I think making GIF in Sai would prove troublesome. I don't know much about Sai, can you make a GIF document with that? Try making sure it's GIF from the start, and it won't get smudgy.
MS Paint is very easy to get free :] just google it. it's great for making pixel art

Yes, Microsoft Paint It should already be on your computer, unless you deliberately deleted it. Try using that instead of Sai

Hey there....noticing your predicament, heheh ;]
You could always do the pixels and shading with the pencil/line tools and color editing, then use the tutorial to do it in GIMP. (Don't freak, GIMP is free n open-sourche n basically a ripoff of Photoshop, hehe) Just tap in 'GIMP download' in your Google and get it from the GIMP site. xDD
I know, my help wasn't asked for, but whatevah xD

This is going to sound hella stupid, but how do you erase without taking away the transparent background?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ferandy8 In reply to kaylannx [2010-01-30 17:53:56 +0000 UTC]
use the regular eraser in stead of the background eraser tool that's if you have photoshop elements 7.0. even so you probably have to change your settings, but if you have a background eraser tool don't use it and use the regular eraser. and if you still cant figure it out just turn the color of your brush to white and use that as an eraser

THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS WAS SUPER HELPFUL ;w; but i was just wondering would this work in ps as well??
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ferandy8 In reply to xxcheesexgeniusxx [2010-01-30 17:56:22 +0000 UTC]
it can if you have settings where you can animate. if photoshop elements 7.0 allows you to animate im pretty sure regular photoshop will as well it's real easy really as long as you can animate on the program.
