Description
I don't think the 37mm M6 gun can even hurt the side armor of the Panzer IV.The M3 Stuarts were the first American-manned (U.S.) tanks in World War II to engage the enemy in tank versus tank combat. With it’s 37mm M6 gun in M44 mount, four .30cal M1919A4 MG’s and as little as .625” or armor on it’s middle front it did not do well in tank to tank combat. (Take notice that my model has a .50cal MG in the AA mount M20 behind turret, my tank commander knows a good thing when he sees it.)

What brand of wethering powders did you use for the mud/rust?

Most of my weathering is dry brush and wash, however I do use Soft Pastel Chalks, which I ground into powders.
My M3LEE is a good example of using the Pastel Chalk. 12jack12.deviantart.com/art/M3…

Love the paint job on these. and the attention to detail on the models are just stunning, i wish you could get as detailed models in 1/48.
oh a bit of a fun fact/ answer to your question. The stuart tank could penetetrate the front armour of the earlier production panzer IV's at ranges up to 100 meters. later panzer iv's had their front armour increased to 80mm and sloped, but the stuart could still penetrate the 30mm thick side armour at ranges up to 450 meters. (i do not have any data on what effect the side skirts whould have but my guess is that we are talking 100m again)
of course, a panzer IV shell will lift a stuart of the ground at much longer ranges. so the stuart may be able to win in rough terrain or in urban battles were ranges are short and speed is an important factor.
any other terrain? panzer, no contest.

The little Stuart made it all the way to the end of the war, he just didn't look so clean at the end

Thats a Panzer IV Ausf G. Not a Panzer III. I can already tell because I see a seventh wheel just barely outside the pic, and a Panzer III has 6 small wheels on the bottom of the track, also the Panzer III couldnt support the long barrelled 75mm. Still cool models! I play a game called "Darkest Hour European Assault 1944-1945" and I have played in a stuart and it can kill a P IV and P III on the side with about 2-3 shots and 2 on the rear. The P IV was pretty much the last tank it could kill. It couldnt touch any of the heavier tanks.

Sorry had the name right in the title, but I got it wrong in the comment section. Yes the side or rear armor was it's only chance with that little gun to do damage.

The Stuart "might" and I mean might be able to damage the side armor of a Panzer IV and if it could stay very close the Panzer's gun is so long that it might be shooting over Stuart.
But I would not want to try it
