OMG holly hell, you are my favorite artist. Your art makes me want to cry it's so beautiful...
You inspire me greatly I can't even tell you how much. I don't think I have come across anyone with such a wonderful type of spirit as you do. I really feel so much life in every picture. Everything, every piece and every line, it feels so powerful as if each has it's own soul. I honestly don't think any of it is crap. NOTHING! You should know its beautiful no matter the shade, weather it's dark to light, absolutely outstanding.

You are very welcome, indeed! I have come a long way and know what it's like, sadly I feel like my art is fading. But to see such hard work it brings every feeling back I once had and the confidence in every piece of heart I have left. I wish I had the skills I once had, tis' why your art stands out to me so much, again it's so wonderful. Please, never give up, there aren't many of you left in the world that has such a gift.

I'll try not to, I'll promise you that. ^^
I don't believe in fading art. I think you're just stuck in an art block (which actually is usually caused by an increased awareness of where your art skill is, and believeing it's not good enough; art blocks are good, despite the pain) or art just hasn't been your main focus. If you want, I'd gladly give you some tips, maybe suggest some reading material. Learning something new can help immensely in developing your art. I'm still a learning and developing artist myself, but I will be more then happy to help you out if you need it. ^^

I really would love that now that I'll be actually going back to school I will have loads of time to start painting and drawing again. I just posted a picture, I'm not the best at drawing digital art. You have me willing to try harder. And as for your kind wards, it's made me more confident than just believing c:
I would love to hear your advice! You have no idea how much I appreciate your help. I'm honored
And yeah I am going through an art block, it's how I know my art is changing and it is the most painful to go through...
But the outcome is always a plus. Well, sometimes xD
A lot of things aren't so very pretty going through it. It mostly ends up into a bunch of lines going everywhere that it's not suppose to.
A great way to keep your hope going strong is to always remember that there will always be someone out there that is greater and lesser than you. That we are not good or bad; just perfect in our own way.
And thank you so much!

First off, I deeply, deeply apologize for the delay in this reply. ;A; I really wanted to give you something worthwhile and put a lot of time into my advice. I don't like to leave people hanging, especially if they may be depending on me, but unfortunately the majority of my time was taken up by school in the months following this comment. That meant I couldn't spend as much time on this. But now that I am out of school, I'm making this the first comment I tackle before I do anything else!
So hello again, I hope you are doing well! :') How has your art been these last few months? I've noticed you're been more inactive, but hopefully this comment will still make it out to you. ^^
For now, I'm just going to compile together a list of artist's, suggested reading, and various other tips. I was also going to critique one of your works, but...I just want to make sure you're here before I do that. But I will send you a note with the other things.

hey shardy nwn
just wondering, are you using watercolors or copics on the bottom left cat-sketch?

16Shards In reply to x-Fyris-x [2016-01-03 22:24:28 +0000 UTC]
Heey!
That would be watercolor (and ink). I used Faber-Castel pens for the line work, and then *extremely cheap and bad XD* Artist Loft watercolors in addition to a Winsor and Newton watercolor marker.
Ive been doing a lot of material research lately, so even though I'm still learning and figuring stuff out, I may be able to give you some suggestions if you need them! ^^

hihi well a good artist can create good works even with poor stuff ;3
I'm trying to get my sketchbook filled as well but urff I just sucks having all this stuff scheduled the next few months and I'm having a hard time getting into it
..but it comes quite handy that I do most of my stuff with pencils and loads of erasers anyway haha
Be aware that I'll get back on you when I get my hands back on watercolors again hahah ^w^

I agree with that...but there are some cheap materials that aren't even worth the two dollars you pay to get them! Artists Loft is one of those brands (the majority of it anyway. Their canvases and acrylic are decent). ;A; The watercolors are so pale and hard to revive, and their brushes are hard to clean. >w<
...Just my opinion on that brand, sorry for the rant! X'D
Ugh, I know the feeling! ;A; It can be really hard to keep drawing in a sketchbook when you have so many other things to do! The only thing I can suggest is always have your sketchbook on hand and doodle whenever you can. Looking up some sketchbook ideas and suggests could be good as well, just to get other ideas into your sketchbook.
Ayy, I'll be right here! XD I'll probably be using watercolor a lot more in my sketchbook, plus I'll be able to name off a few brands that might be nice to use. :')

hahaha xDD like you said that's your opinion.
I've never heard of Artists Loft and to be honest, I don't have any expensive watercolors either.
I usual paint with some odd Pelican watercolors leftover from school cD
XD might be a good thing doodling in my sketchbook instead into scriptures haha just gotta keep it with me somehow
Well is there an affordable brand you would absolutely recommend for having in terms of quality? ouo
I know Farber-Castel 'cus me luvs using the mechanical pencil nwn

Meh...maybe perhaps I'm using it wrong. Maybe I need to add more water, it is really hard to revive. Either way though, not a favorite. <:')
It might just a be a US brand. I've typically seen them at Micheal's (which is our nation wide art store...it's useful for most things, but it's more on the generic side. It doesn't carry everything).
Those seem to to be a good brand. Haven't used them, but another US art store, Dick Blick (which is like a way better Micheals and is super informative with the products it sells; you should check it out if you can), has good reviews for it. ^^
Haha! XD
The watercolors I use in school are Prang, and those do pretty well. They're cheap but still are pretty vibrant, and much more easier to revive. ^^ If you're looking for affordability, I would suggest those! ^^
I also have some Winsor and Newton Cotman watercolors at home, but that's probably more expensive then what you're looking for. But if you're willing to put the money into it, they work SUPER well! They're highly pigmented, so you won't need to use much paint to get brighter colors.
There's also another brand I would like to try soon, but it didn't come this Christmas because it was out of stock! >: ( It's called Sakura Koi Watercolor, specifically the sketch pan sets. It's also more on the cheaper side (not as much as Prang though), but unfortunately I can't say if they're good or not yet!

than get better ones but I know what you mean cD
They start to get really hardend up if you just haven't used them for a while.
I remember having a cheap set of watercolors from discounter and the little color pods were all cracked because of the dried out pigment fragments xD the colors sucked anyway
Just like you said xDD not worth the 2 bucks spending on it
thanks for your hints ouo notes everything down
Meh how annoying, must have been a good choice, not only for you xD were you able to reorder them?
Well I guess I'm already equipped with some good basic stuff, I think it's more of a training story and more about getting the feel of using the right colors hahah

Haha! XD That's what I did!
Ahh, actually did not know that... I'll keep that in mind for my new sets. ^^
Oh, wow! XD
Ahhh, no problem! Glad I could help!
Haha, right! XD Oh, actually though, it was backordered. ^^ Basically, it was in stock when we ordered it, but they ran out of the product before they could ship it to us. So it's weird, but essentially they ship the product to us when it's back in stock. Which was a couple days ago. ^^ I haven't tried them out too much, but I'm liking them so far! ^^ They're small paints and the colors are a bit strange (so far, anyway...I think some more practice with them will prove otherwise), but they're pretty bright and easily reactivated. ^^ They also come with a water brush, which is a plus!
I know the feeling! XD Watercolor is definitely weird at first! There's a bunch of good tutorials on Youtube for watercolor, though, which might be helpful! ^w^ Good luck with it!

16Shards In reply to DuskyScales [2016-01-09 14:31:39 +0000 UTC]
Haha! Well...in that case, definitely looking up references or even finding, like, guide books to read are helpful. ^^ You need other information to work off of to actually improve. Like anything, we don't improve in a vacuum (at least not well). And patience! Lots of patience is needed. :3
But may the drawing force be with you as you continue your path to greatness.

I have problem with references for some reason, I either forget to look at it, draw really messily or accidentally come closer to just copying the ref rather than learning from it. X3 I find it easier to draw from memory in that regard, so it's not like I ignore more 'realistic' or 'proper' anatomy, I just fail at referencing properly. Which is why trying to draw someone else's character can be awkward too, I can't always tell the difference between the style of their art and the actual anatomy of the character. ;;
I thank you, I shall continue to try~ c:

I understand you on the references. X') It's hard to use references just for references.
SAAAMMMMMEEEE. I always like to stay true to the character's style, but it's always so hard deciding what styling should be kept and what shouldn't! XD
No problemo, bro. :'3

Also annoying if you derg without using a specific spices species ;-; what do i ref
many choices
'Tis great :'D With characters I've drawn a lot, I usually end up with my own style for drawing them, but one-off characters can be odd. This is why I don't like throwing some of my characters at people. X3

That's why I started moving over some of my characters to specific animals. XD At least loosely related, anyways.
Agreed, sometimes you're just not sure what you're going to get back. Some people just aren't as observant of those details. ;A;

Ye, I might do something like that later on but generally I like my dragons how they are and just want to develop their anatomy as it is~
It's more 'cause I think they'd be an absolute pain for them to draw. X3 Not that they couldn't, but it would be more trouble than it's worth to get all the things right. I'd feel bad about asking when some of my other characters are more reasonable to ask for~

Problem is, I can't draw to save my life (was that the expression?) xD. Just kidding, I can try but drawing is not really my thing (and if I happen to draw something that seems good enough, I don't color it because I would destroy it in seconds heh ), I just wanted to try and have a little joke

Aha! XD Thank you so much!
Oh, the watercolor? The one with the grass? Uhh, um....I think the only thing I can really tell you is to plan before you starting coloring, especially is it's something you can't really fix if it's a mistake. Look up references and save art that you think visually looks good (usually that means it has nice color selection, among other things) and use those as references for your pieces. Other than that...I think the only other thing I can suggest is to balance out your bright colors with duller colors (try it out, it can really pull a piece together. :3 ), as well as think of other colors besides standard ones. (For example, a field of grass. You may think it's just bright blue and bright green, but think of other hues too. The grass could be more yellow than green. Perhaps the sky is overcast and gray. Heck, maybe it's a crazy fantasy land with bright purple grass and an orange sky. XD )
...that was probably more than you were asking for, but hopefully that's helpful either way! ^^'
