Pencil Drawing of Preston Jones (Commission)On acid free mat board 15” x 24”
I don’t often do commissions but this one is an exception. It was a great drawing to work on; Preston has a very intriguing face, a serious, deep, gaze… a thinker and artist, but with more then a hint of kindness.

Amazing. No matter how closely I search for a flaw, this is just like staring at a head-shot photo. I've never actually seen the man, but for whatever reason, I get a certain sadness from his eyes.

I really love the way the threads and texture of the sweater work with the chain of the necklace. The detail is just flooring.

How do you get such fine, white, wiry hairs with pencil (like in the moustache)? Do you use something else to create that tiny, crisp line, or do you erase and draw carefully around every hair? I just can't even wrap my brain around it, and I would really love to know how you achieved that true look of hair, with the individual strands SO sharp and clear. I mean, your drawing is sooooo clean! Fantabulous.

You penciled that. /Penciled/ that. The detail in the sweater, in the chain around his neck, his skin... every flaw and imperfection and spot. The hair, the small amount of texture in the background (or is it on textured board of some kind?)... you penciled all of this? The sweater alone must have taken hours. You even have a pulls in the stitching.
I simply cannot fathom this kind of talent and skill. I am only vaguely aware it existed, and while I have seen things come close, this is just--- unbelievable. You are a god among men. Wow.
