Monolithic updatePencil on Illustration Board
Full drawing 30” x 40” this image 7” x 7”
This is the Second element in this drawing, the sky and bulb being the first.
This is a drawing of my step-fathers eye. An eye that’s seventy-eight years old, an eye akin to hammered gold. An eye that’s experienced prisoner of war camps and the death of many comrades. It’s been witness to beating cancer once and now in the dusk of his years to lung cancer. This symbol speaks of strength and vulnerability; it alludes to the end of one journey and the beginning of another.
(On December 5, 2005 my dear step-dad died in my arms, I will miss him so very much, Gods Speed to you Dad, and all my love always). Armin Mersmann

If you go though some of the comments you will see some think it’s a fake, its not. I guess I can see all the pencil marks and find it odd that some think its Photoshoped, and even odder that someone would fake something like this, what for?

It really doesn’t bother me much anymore I can’t do anything about it except be honest and try to engage these people into a dialog. Case in point- Mandy a few comments down from this didn’t believe that it was a drawing and we had a healthy and fruitful discussion, and became cyber friend because of it.

Keeping in standing with the Metallica theme wouldn’t that be “Sad But True” ? Just out of respect for our mutual love of Metallica I will invite you to go to the Baylor University Web at the Martin Museum of Art, I am currently showing this drawing on 24 others at the University and spent five days teaching grad students advanced drawing techniques do your really think for one moment that the whole faculty who are specializing in drawing wouldn’t catch my “deception” but you can by looking at a monitor screen?
You have to be joking to really believe a 53 year old artist and teacher would spent his time playing silly ass fucking games. I usually either ignore this shit or tell the person to fuck off but for some reason I didn’t in this case.

Anyway I was very respectful to you and tried to shed “some humor” into your attack. This wasn’t a “negative” comment such as “I don’t like the drawing” or “the iris is too round” , rather you called my work fake and a deception this amounted in calling me liar. If you go to the comment before yours I get this crap more than I care to think about, and I thought I would give it a go and pull out a conversation about this whole deception thing. Why you or anyone would call someone a liar, someone you don’t even know is insulting and rather narcissistic on your part. As a realist I have taken this as an offhand complement, but I get sick and tired of pseudo-artists rehashing distorted art school psychobabble, trying feverishly to impress by words then by deed. And no not and an oracle but before you go out and call people liars look at all their work, try and find the justification and proof for your attack…it wasn’t a “negative comment” but an accusation of falsification.
There is enough mean and nasty shit out there without us artist dumping it on each other.
