Description
CompletedIn the Name of the Father Sold 2007
Pencil on matboard 21” x 40”
Under the auspices of the Christian church there have been both horrible atrocities and amazing selfless acts of giving, all in “The Name of the Father”. The rouge priest stands for this duality; representing both the victim and culprit. Is he freeing the Christ from his cross or tearing him from his symbol of martyrdom? Helper, healer, consoler, rapist, madman, thief…
Thank you all for following this wip and for all the great comments and questions asked, I will try to get back to you as best as I can.

I really respect you Armin, your years of experience and talent shows much more than just graphite on paper, you capture essence.
When art judges look at realistic work I do, they sort of judge me as not being a real artist. WHAT IS A REAL ARTIST? It made me feel so offended, im working on my imaginative side but what right do they have too critisize me on realism not being real art:S. Have you ever had that problem?

I have and that’s old school thinking that you will no doubt run into, just like some hate abstraction which I love and is a great art form. There is beauty and power in all of it, every “ism” some will cheat their soul be dogmatically rejecting a whole movement because of their fragile little egos. We can’t change them but we can be the best at what we do, that our responsibility.

to me he seems of darker intentions. His face seems fearful and tormented, but his hands seem full of malice as they wrap around Christ. The background resembles some sought of iron halo and the only way he can take the weight is to lean on the cross. Thats how I read this beautiful piece anyway. I have no idea how you get this out of a pencil

That’s exactly what art is suppose to do, bring the viewer ideas and emotions into the mix, great interpretation

AMAZING.. What kind of eraser do you use for the little strands of hair and the shiny places on the face?

I don’t use in eraser very often, I lighten areas and use subtractive drawing but not for the hair, the hair is just left white and drawn around. Thanks

...Vieuwing your work once in a while. I know why they look so great now. And I get most comments like I draw so long . Like I draw 190 hours on one, but you draw like like 750 hours on a drawing. The patience is the same as your drawing there expresses (as a saint). I do agree alot of taking patience and VIEUWING, judging all over again, in more than one perspective, is very determine to the outcome. And I mst say that you really make a significant difference between a good drawing and a detailed one; with you it is just so much extra and that is really rare. I'm a heavy detailfreak too
I can't help it it is a sickness
. But you do have a way greater outcome. Like if you drew mine, I would draw a doll with lines and pitchforks as legs and arms
, like a child of 3 years does. I would like to thank you for your respond on the broken glass problem. You also said you where curious when it's done; so
. Think I posted the same thing somewhere else, but I'm frankly new at DA (I'm new to art aswell). I did't know which is your main page ?¿?¿. I'm sorry
.....may I add some of your work as my faves?

Hi Nimra
Denis thought that I would like your drawings, and I got to say he's not wrong !!!
these are truely Amazing, this drawing in particular stood out for me, I am in awe at the amount of detail that you have managed to capture with pencils !
The context of this image is so powerful & emotional, the facial expression of the father / vicar is just outstanding, his clutching of Jesus from the cross just makes me think of endless theories as to why he would be doing this.

Denis that means a lot coming from an artist of your caliber. Your photo realistic painting techniques are truly remarkable, and I like what you have to say about your process as well. Meticulously translating photos into paint is a Zen and technical nexus. Nay Sayers will always lament on this be screeching “why don’t you just take a photo”, as you know it’s the act of painting that gives you clear understanding of what the photo is “trying” to say. Keep up your flawless work I think you are a big assist to DA.
Thanks again my friend
