Description
CompletedIn the Name of the Father Sold 2007
Pencil on matboard 21” x 40”
Under the auspices of the Christian church there have been both horrible atrocities and amazing selfless acts of giving, all in “The Name of the Father”. The rouge priest stands for this duality; representing both the victim and culprit. Is he freeing the Christ from his cross or tearing him from his symbol of martyrdom? Helper, healer, consoler, rapist, madman, thief…
Thank you all for following this wip and for all the great comments and questions asked, I will try to get back to you as best as I can.

Thank you, it’s more about observation than drawing skills although they work hand in hand.

Just commented on another one of your pics, but I have to o it again. Your attention to detail is mindblowing.. My favourite part is his hand and the way you can see how the skin streches over the bones

usually I would ask people to visit my gallery and comment on what they think... but in comparison mine is liken to a kindergartener's first crayon picture. All your pieces are mind-blowing, and I can not believe that they are made with pencil...
...unbelievable...

Wow.
This is startling.
I love the imagery and the details - especially his skin, with the bright white highlights.
Did you work from a reference, or do you have that clear of imagery in your head?

you drew, black cloth. and and it looks like actual black cloth. to me that was the greatest part of this, to see the black cloth, soo plain but so much detail. thank you SO much for sharing this with us.

This is the greatest pencil technique I've ever seen. I suggest it's the greatest in the history of art.
Thank you very much for the experience of viewing this.

That's simply spactacular.
It looks like a photo. Amazing detail.
This, in a way, reminds me of Norman Rockwell.

I feel like that with certain people myself, natural I think. I’m always am in awe of people who work in a different way then me, other concepts. But I don’t let it bother me anymore, we can all be very good at some style some “ism” and that’s what I work on. Melanie your work is great keep on my friend!

This is absolutely amazing. Very rarely do I find a portrait Artist whose skill in rendering allows emotion to seep into their work and bring something greater. Also rarely do I find people so good a drawing old men, and finding beauty in those not normally considered beautiful. I want to give you a kudos for the meaning you assign and represnt to your pieces and the skill in rendering.

Andrea thank you for your wonderful words, I especially find it meaningful because your own style is very emotional and has such an impact, yet it’s a looser more painterly style of work. The integrity of feeling and emotion can shine through any “ism” any technique when it’s honest, and heartfelt. If not, at best it’s just a good drawing of a face,
Thanks again
