oh my god man........The shear magnitude of this is blowing me away!!!!!!! Please tell me you placed little things in there like small birds, tree frogs or bugs!!!!!!!! For me, those little things would push this WAY>/b> over the boundaries!!!
Are you drawing with an x-acto knife? .....you mysterious, shadowy artist.
I would love to see this original.......sigh, someday

Lol Armin, I've never seen someone look like they've been caught DOING a masterpiece. Great to be able to judge the scale of that fine piece.

This is such a detailed and inspiring work, makes me want to go back home and draw all day.
I have a common question for you, regarding this.
Do you always draw on VERTICAL pads like that or, is it just for the picture? If you do, isnΒ΄t it tiresome to hold the hand in the air for so long?
Hum, and what about the natural sweat from the hands? IsnΒ΄t it a problem when blurring areas, and "destrying" them because of so much rubbing against the paper? How do you go around this situation, do you use gloves or papers in between?
Once again, awesome work. IΒ΄m a fan.

No I rarely draw vertical, at this stage it was sprayed and I was adjusting a few details, because it vertical I could walk back and forth which I tend not to do so much when itβs on my drawing table. Thanks for the good words

You must have gotten through a few pencils! Good thing pencils don't actually contain lead then! Your work is truly inspiring. I think you particularly excel with this sort of subject matter.

thanks!
I like complexity, even at my age Iβm still rebelling against my professors who kept telling me to loosen up, to simplify. Yet I tell my students the same why? In foundations you need that discipline or you get nowhere.

When I'm working on a piece from a photo, I can't help jumping around the page trying to get it filled like I've been taught to, before adding detail. However, I have noticed that many if not most photorealists complete small areas before moving on.

Yeah the way I teach is to draw all over the way I draw is in small sections, I think the reason is I want to see something finished and not wait four hundred hours unitl the whole thing is done

Having seen the scale of this you have inadvertently thrown down the gauntlet. I'm now going to rethink the size of the dots that I'm going to use on my three foot by six foot project! Even if it kills me, I will finish that painting in under two years!!!

Blacleria [2010-04-05 14:11:08 +0000 UTC]
Wow, it is really interesting too see how you work and on which scale
Though I thought you have to work on a larger place, because so many details need place... just amazing!

ok, the Drawing itself is freaking amazing, the time you must have spent on that . . .
Now, This photo . . . with the light visible, it seems to add Another dimension to the whole thing . . .
Two Thumbs up man, seriously awsome work

You COULDN'T resist it, now could you? Finally I waited so long for a shot from your mug I can draw, and he shoots it entirely black!!. 2 options...Either your handsome appearance blacks the photo out, or you delibertly adjust it in PS so I can't draw it.
You did the drawing blindfold?!?!? I mean, you're looking at me and not to the drawing. I mean I work from the mind alot, but THIS is just talented, doing a drawing like that blindfold!
That lightlamp wasn't drawn before either. Is it a lightlamp-appletree?

you mean your drawing would tend to go towards a potato-plant.

ajha100 [2010-04-04 19:25:06 +0000 UTC]
lol, the drawing itself is so 3-dimensional that you appear to be a giant pencilling details into existence. In fact, I recommend you make a black and white version of this image and see if you agree with the effect I'm envisioning.
Magnificent work, by the way. One question - is your palm resting against the board at any time? If not, how the heck do you put in the small details? Is your hand really that steady?!?

how long did this take you? I can't seem to do a pencil drawing for more then 2 or 3 hours...and i usually smudge it all sigh i have a lot to learn
