Really like the lighting. So many people make great space scenes and spoil it with over lighting the subject.

Nice job! Icarus must be considerably far away and early on its voyage for the sun to be over eclipsed like it is here.

Thank you - well the ship was in deep shadow for the majority of its mission - this is of course a test render and I did not make the sun 'show' for this

I didn't realise they'd have much lights on it at all actually subtle, but very nice

Actually there are quite a few more to put onto the main body I am sure in real life they would not put that many, but in the film the ship was in constant shadow from the shield, therefore so they were not filming a black void where the ship was they threw in a bunch of pretty lights

Could you possibly make it bigger? Can't give you a fair comment unless I could see it.

No I don't do full size on DA, learned that a long time ago - waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many thieves here, and watermarking it just makes it uglier then sin

Oh. Deviantart give you the option to put it a watermark on it.

That is why in the previous comment I stated 'and watermarking it just makes it uglier then sin'
Just went round and round with yet ANOTHER art thief yesterday right here on DA >.> I only post full size to professional CG sites You generally can't view the full size unless you are members of various sites, and there are some real pro's there.

Hmm...btw I think they got the name Icarus 2 from the movie Planet of the Apes (1968 version). I think that's the shuttle they were sleeping on.

No more than likely it is because of the flight to the sun as in the historical legend of Icarus, who wanted to fly but was warned against it, made his wings of feathers and wax, learned to fly and flew too close to the sun, the wax melted and he plummeted to his death

True as well, though I think the name has more meaning in Sunshine than it did in a movie about intelligent monkey's

Hey do you know any good scifi meshes sites? I can't find myself a copy of the Star Trek 11 shuttle craft.

You can try out scifi-meshes.com or scifi3D.com for models, though I have yet to see any of the new shuttles yet.

You can do it, in fact a shuttlecraft - especially the one from the movie is a good model to start with, it is basically an altered square with insets and extrusions here and there. If I get time when Icarus is done and my animations for my client are done (for now) I will model one real quick detailed

It's probably better if you do it...I don't really have any knowledge on extrusions and insets.... then again there's not much I know about 3DS MAX yet.

Ahhh yes, the complexities of Max I used to use it long ago, but I much prefer C4D
Awesome community too, and LOTS of free add-ons, where Max communities usually charge you an arm, a leg, one kidney and half a liver for them
