She should have known something would happen. That something would go wrong. Just.. Why did it have to happen now?
Yin had spoken with her family, she’d refused to back down from the fact she did not want to marry Prince Li. And while her parents agreed to it there was still much work left to be done. She had also informed them that she would be returning to Mahou immediately after their meeting was done so she could speak with Kardia.
But what she hadn’t expected was that while she was heading out to open the portal to Mahou, an arrow landing barely a few inches in front of her face. Worse yet wasn’t the arrow itself but what came after. Apparently the arrow had only meant to be a distraction used in an assassination attempt. And while Yin hadn’t gotten hurt, minus a bit shorter hair in some places and a small gash on the back of her neck from the enemy’s sword, the culprits were not caught, having disappeared in a puff of dust and sparkles. The only thing left behind by anyone was the original arrow which had a weird magic signature to it that no one was able to identify.
The kingdom was now on high alert and no one was allowed to leave. Apparently Yin had not been the only target, but by far was the one that had been the primary target. Yin almost wished she’d not returned to her family to report what just happened. She almost wished she’d instead gone back to Mahou. Then she wouldn’t be stuck in this situation.
With the odd magic that came from the weapons and the fact the would-be assassins were able to teleport, it was almost impossible to tell what the assailants could and could not do. Thus Mahou has been deemed as ‘too risky’ for Yin to travel to, and her protests resulted in her key being taken as a ‘safety precaution’. So she’d been forced to remain in her room, unable to leave without guards with her, and unable to go back to Mahou at all.
Yin has been pacing around her room for the past hour now, trying to figure out what she can do. She was mostly concerned about Kardia.. She’d told him she’d return as soon as she’d spoken to her parents.. And now it was late into the night here, she could only assume how late it was in Mahou. She wondered if he was expecting her to be back by now… She was worried maybe he’d think she hadn’t gone through with it.. That scared her more than the idea of having been attacked..
It wasn’t until she caught sight of her sleeping telemon that she even remembered that she had one. Yin froze for a moment as her brain finished processing. And next thing she knew she was grabbing onto Shu and looking through her contacts. She’d have to thank Nadhiya for getting him for her, she owes her for this..
Yin’s claw hovered over Kardia’s name to call.
What if… he didn’t want to talk to her. What if he didn’t care since she hadn’t returned in person..? What if he thought it was an excuse not to return?..
Despite the thoughts, Yin pressed the button and waited for the call to connect.
What if he was busy doing something? What if he was asleep right now? What if he didn’t answer?..
Any more thoughts like that disappeared as Kardia’s sleepy face appeared on screen. Yin let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding and was so happy to see him she smiled despite almost being on the verge of tears.
“Kardia!..”
