Description
Many thanks to you guys who have taken the time to comment on my site also, it's great to hear from youPlease feel free to visit 2D Forever
Have you played through Metal Gear Solid 4? If not, I recommend doing it now. It's a painful endurance, but worth it.
For those who have completed it, you will know why I did this. I'm trying my best not to spoil anything here, but... (the picture doesn't help) As much as I want to talk about it, I'll keep my thoughts about it all to myself.
For this MGS piece, I chose to keep it quite rough for two reasons.
Firstly, I didn't want to smooth out the skin too much, as it suited being rough. Second... it takes half the time! There isn't exactly loads of thought behind this other than "I wanted to draw Big Boss", so simple was fine by me.
I was also going to colour it, but wasn't exactly sure what to do, so I went into greyscale and thought it worked rather well. It's nothing special, but fun to draw.
I'm not overly happy about the gun in the foreground, it doesn't really stand out as much as I'd want it to, and kind of hard to tell what it is unless you've played lots of first person shooters! But I felt it necessary, just to represent something from MGS4...

I was on the brink of getting the mgs4 bundle but i ran out of funds before even getting close to it.. luckily a friend's going to lend me his ps3 + mgs4 so I'll get to play through it anyway
It sure looks stylish : ) I like how it looks like the concept art of both snake and liquid from solid1. Which makes much sense them being what they are..

Oooh, interesting you say that. Enjoy playing through MGS4 is all I'm going to say!
Oh, and seriously take its advice when it tells you to take a break... When a cut scene comes up they can sometimes be well over an hour long...
I'm glad you like this piece anyway, it was just a quick picture... which I wish I do more of!

's going well here. I think we're in the midst of changing seasons.. so the weather's going nuts. Aside from that I'm back in school for a 2 year program (translates into something like "operations technician") which is going well sofar.
I trust this'll work out better for me than my old attempt at an university education

So what's that exactly? Like a technical job with computers, or something completely different? Sounds cool anyway

well here it's basicly tech maintenance through computers i suppose.. They had an active blueprint-esque maintenance computer program at the paper factory I worked this summer where they could keep track of the process and make some tweaks if needed to either make it more efficient or to prevent disaster. But the job differs depending on where and what kind of industry you work at. Good pay tho ^^

Good pay isn't everything though! I'm going to be leaving a well-ish paid job soon to go to something that will keep me happy!
But fi you're enjoying it, or at least finding it a challenge, then that's all good

I know it isn't ^^ but it's atleast something I could see myself doing for quite a while should everything else fail
I might get such an opportunity aswell later on, who knows ^w^
Atleast this won't be something I'll hate doing to begin with and through the whole thing

Wow, this is great. I thought this scene was so moving, especially when Big Boss grabs Snake, disarms him, and hugs him. Awesome art!!

Yeah, definitely... that entire scene was so touching and well-written. I can totally understand all the comments on the YouTube video of it that went something along the lines of "This made me cry manly tears!"

This is a great picture. I saw it and I knew what it was. It fits the mood of the Metal Gear games so well. Big Boss looked so sad and tired and I don't blame him.

I guess that is true. Snake and his father were both great warriors, but... to a big degree Snake hasn't seen anything close to what Big Boss went through. (At the very least, he's certainly never commanded entire armies!)
"That's right. Good! No need for you to go just yet. It's been a long time... Snake."

in act 4 did it bring a tear to your eye when you heard "the best is yet to come" whilst walking down the hill looking at a familiar view? it did for me.

Well if you ask me, I am kinda pretending that Snake DID shoot himself. After all, all what happens after the first ending credits is so strange (Big Boss'very healthy conditions, above all), that I pretend is more like some sort of metaphor... allucination... pre-death experience.... anything. XD

It's been awhile and in that time you have continued to perfect and master your skills as an artist to a higher level of professional stance.
Your style and approach has greatly increased with this latet submission and it's easy to see that you have a strong eye for working with tonal value and anatomy. The variation of expressed grey palette used here is very strong in that you have not only used a good selection to capture detail, lighting and to sharpen the anatomy, but how you have used the tones to bring out the gritty aura that the Metal Gear Series has always had. What is really interesting to see here is the good variety of soft and hard brush strokes to capture the feel of the character of Big Boss. It has definitely worked well here and through those brush strokes and addition of grey tones you've succeeded in creating an outstanding atmosphere of work.
This piece has largely shown that you have a superb talent as a digital artist and that you have truly mastered tonal value to a professional level. By far this is the strongest piece of work you've shown so far and indicates that the art coming from you in the future will only be stronger.
Keep it up.

Wow, thank you so much (as always)! There was something about it's simplicity and the dark tones that made it work, but I'm still unsure about certain areas - but I'm really glad you think it's strong, always a great boost to hear, so thank you so much.
...Must draw more, must draw more...

Quite a pleasure 2D. The simplicity and dark tones did work a lot better this time around, but there should always be an area or section to be unsure about. It allows you to improve those next time around.
Pleasure again, keep it up.
