Description I promise to draw more... I NEED to draw more...
2D Forever

I'm sure we're all aware of the DarkStalkers tribute book being held by Udon - Missing out on the SF book I had to give this one a go.

However I find out that my piece didn't make it into the book. Bah. The annoying part is I don't know why I didn't make the book - there could be a possibility that Anita (shown here) is not considered a DS character and therefore automatically disqualified.

I could try to fool myself into thinking this, but judging by the calibre of disappointed artists that also weren't selected, I'd say quality was certainly an issue too.
Ah well... Didn't like the Darkstalkers anyway... grumble grumble.

As for the actual picture, this is Anita, the loveable little freak, doing her scary finger pointing most prominently seen in Marvel vs Capcom. I really liked the way this turned out, using quite simple colouring (it's very two toned) and not trying anything too fancy with it.

Still, glad it's all over so I can show the piece and carry on playing more Capcom games.

I htink this little piece of fan art is not only a grand tribute to teh Darkstalkers series, but also for us to witnesses just how your skills as a digital artist have increased greatly over time.

I must say that the real shinning point here is what you have done with the colour and various forms of shading/lighting touches. While th edesign is very well layed out and presented it is colour that has really made this piece some to stare at in amazement. The bright mixes of pink against the warm and cold tones of blue is a nice contrast and definitely gives the girl that creepy presence that you don't want to get to close too. I think what really expresses your talents have improved is the wonderful brush work that you did for the skin tones. The shading is gracefully applied and really gives off her energy and is wonderfully explored.

Keep it up.

P.S: I'm also curious to know what brushes you used on this piece. As well as an effects that you applied.

Thank you as always I went quite bright with the colours on this as I knew I'd be adding in the bright pink at the end. There are some bits that I left to Photoshop though, such as the white/pink glows on the side of her I just applied an outer-glow to white light I painted in.

As for the brushes, It's all the normal round brushes I use. If you're referencing the clouds in particular those are also the same brushes, I just keep adjusting the hardness of the brush to give it an uneven fluffiness! Otherwise, it was mostly working with a small round brush (In Photoshop it's the "Airbrush opacity pen" - which is basically a round brush that fades on tablet pen pressure). Hope that helps in some way, let me know if it doesn't!

Awesome. It's a shame you didn't make it into the book. If it's any consolation, I think it's great.

You could kinda play as Anita in Puzzle Fighter, if that counts.

Oh, she was in Marvel VS Capcom too??

Anyway, you should've drawn Q-Bee! She's my favorite, I always adored her. X3

2dforever In reply to Lun-Sei [2009-03-19 19:01:56 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, she was one of the assist characters. Seeing as her finger pointing move in Marvel Super Heroes was quite well hidden, I thought MvC was more commonly seen!

As Q-Bee, yeah she's a funny one, but I just had to try Anita. Creepy children!

Thanks for the comment

Ah I'm sure when the book comes out it'll be stuffed with fantastic quality. If not, then I'll place the blame on Anita not being a 'real' DS character!

Uhm, I agree with you. This quite possible was the best out of the bunch that I've seen so far and as a secondary character, she's not really one to ignore because she's so powerful .

Besides the storyline aspect, this picture shouldn't have been ignored either. It fits her perfectly and the level of detail and the brooding colors is spot on. I'm not really a conspiracy theorist, but i call bullshit on their lack of approval.

Definate +fave.

Interesting idea about girl-daemon.
Btw, you have created perfect Spike portrait from Cowboy Bebop, don't you want to make other "crew" portraits? =] I think many people watching your gallery are interested in this. But if you have some ideas about it - nvm, I am just telling my opinion.
