Since reading this back in september I think when i started doing proper 3d stuff, i think it has been one of the most helpful tutorials towards my work (Which isn't in my gallery )
But a sincere thanks

No problem.
I think you should do more tutorials, they'd be very helpful and easy to understand!
If you have time and all
I like BrighT
and your Texture and glass test
Glass would be helpful in a tut

dont worry i understand now, when assigning id's to a selected part of the object I'd assign both 1 AND 2 right??? i use v-ray too and thanks a lot for your help

If you use Vray, use the Vraymaterial! it has default raytrace on, and very nice falloff reflections (fresnel)
then you dont have to worry about raytrace

hey, this tutorial is great... just one thing... where would i put the "raytrace" settings if i were using a multi-sub object, and within a "Multilayer" sub material. in other words...which tab in the "maps" rollout??? i hope that makes sense.

4G0NY In reply to uddercrap [2006-11-23 17:43:15 +0000 UTC]
in a multi sub you can choose it as a second material, all raytrace stuff is a render method, youll have to change the material type to raytrace, not the maps, those are just to be used as textures, or "masks" for the rays to be traced

uddercrap In reply to 4G0NY [2006-11-24 06:27:49 +0000 UTC]
but wouldnt that make the raytrace settings only for an object or ID assigned to the second material? I'm confused lol. don't mind me

4G0NY In reply to uddercrap [2006-11-24 06:43:26 +0000 UTC]
Thats the entire purpose of multi/sub
You can have one multi material for many objects, its just a way to keep your material editor clean, if you want raytrace for #1 , not for 2 and again for #3, you can separately choose it for those mats, just like regular material editing
Multi layered mats can be made by using different maps and blending them (falloff is a nice way to make things blend well)
i couldnt explain without a tutorial or something.. but i use Vray.. its much simpler in setup, and has way different material types.
Anyway, if you still dont get it, add my msn, i'll explain in steps, way easier ^^

Excellent, I had been having a HORRIBLE time trying to find a tutorial for rendering that didn't sound like it was written by a 10 year old, or someone who didn't spreken se english, if you know what I mean.
Highly entertaining, VERY easy to follow.
I'm probably going to be bugging you for months though, now. You do realise this, don't you?

Not a problem, now I think my first act of bugging you should be for me to ask you to look at my page, and tell me what in the world I did wrong with my marble'd sphere render (only the sphere was supposed to be marbely, when it rendered, the sphere, plane, and background were all marbely.)
