Description
The goal of this series piece was to experiment with manipulating a composition, both through adjusting style and abstraction. Again, this was an assignment in my 2D Design course. The first piece is, for the most part, simply representational with a focus on using curvilinear lines. I feel that I could've done more with the pointilism, but overall I'm satisfied with it. I wasn't entirely sure what to do, as I essentially made the composition as I went, but things tied themselves together fairly well. I really had fun with the vines. :]
Transitioning to the second, I was then required to take the same image and transform it using rectilinear lines and shapes. The flower stands out a lot more in this one with the large border, and I think that helps make the focus of the piece a little clearer. Again, the vines were fun.
There weren't a lot of requirements for the last piece other than to play with abstraction, patterns, stretching, warping, etc. I would've done more creatively had I not started and finished this on the night before it was due, (a slight trend of mine), but it ended up being my favorite. It reminds me very much of a retro, 70's dealio. Groovy!
Pen on bristol board, approximately 8 cumulative hours. Each square is 8"x8"

Color is fun, but I kind of like the simple, bold contrast of black and white.
I think I'll be doing a lot more pen pieces now. :]

Yeah, these are really cool. I showed this to Ingrid and Julia, who's an art major, and they were both really impressed.
