Description
Title is not that meaningful, just picked it from a song title: [link]This is directly inspired by a line from Half-Life 2:
"Carbon stars with ancient satellites, colonized by sentient fungi; gas giants, inhabited by vast meteorological intelligences; worlds stretched thin across the membranes where the dimensions intersect..." There's also a bit of Lem's Solaris here. The green lightning thing is supposed to mimick a neuron, and clouds are something like body organs. Googling pictures of various fancy clouds must've been the most educating part of working. I also think, I re-did hands 4 or 5 times just to get them right...

Breen meeting the species that created the Combine in the first place? Sentient Clouds?

Sometimes a gas giant inhabited by meteorological intelligence is just a gas giant inhabited by meteorological intelligence.
And some singular species "creating" Combine would be so cliched.

I agree, but it would have had to start somehow and somewhere, right? maybe these 'Intelligence's' weren't actually a natural organism but a by-product of mere concentration of thought that became tangible, through the minds of the mysterious Shu,ulathoi race, thought to be the native Advisor race that shared their mental art-forms and entire unseen worlds shaped in their universe-like heads, birthing all that is like a deity, but a negative thought pattern infected the culture of dreamers, poets and sages, they became slaves to an influence created of their own making, such chaos... such depravity... desire to enslave and subjugate... a deadly pursuit for knowledge by any means necessary followed, and it was this thing, this parasite that influenced organic life forms to feed off of their resources and reach a state of perfection, and with each augmentation or enhancement made to a race, the pattern of oppression and loss of free will continued, but a few escapees that fled their world before being exhumed and assimilated were able to counteract this multiverse-faring hyper-militarized crushing way of thinking with a different idea, a different movement.
A resistance, a Free Man, a chance for freedom.
That's my headcanon anyway.
