Description
Ok, since people seem to like the way I use colour pencils so much here goes a little tutorial!Just as I promised!
PLEASE READ:
- IF YOU EVER RESORT TO THIS TUTORIAL OR USE TIPS FROM IT LET ME KNOW! ^^ I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE RESULTS!
- Sorry for the poor quality of the photos...
- This is just a SUGGESTION! I don't really know how to use pencils properly: this is just merely stuff I've learned from my own personal experience using this medium and I'm completely self-taught!

Wow, really helpful! I need good colored pencils then...And better paper XD Haha, but my family is poor so I'll stick with printer paper and roseart colored pencils til I get better

yeah you don't really have to have all these pencils, a 30 pencil set is more than enough, the importante part is training the tecnique ^^ better paper can help you though, if you ever get you hands on better paper try feeling the differente : D

I use printer paper, lol, one question, though, what type of paper do you recommend? And do I need as many pencils as you or will a forty eight pack do? Just because my drawings look so crappy on the computer and I am curious about that. XD

A-Xofia In reply to supermarshmallow90 [2008-06-28 14:24:59 +0000 UTC]
I use a type of paper that is only made if Portugal =\ but any paper that is not as thin and glossy as printer paper and not as textured as watercolour ones will do ummmm...to get this effect eight is too little i think...i would recoment at least a 24 or 30 set
they way they look on the computer depends on how the come out of the scan, sometimes you need to adjust the contrast and such.
hope that helps!

Considering the only colour pencils mum lets me have are the like 15 for $2 ones it's not really helpful to me (honestly... a miracle wouldn't be helpful to me), but the precision and instructions were brilliant. A wellmade tutorial. Snaps for you.

Thank you so much for putting this up. My favorite artist who uses colored pencils is Kyara17 and she used this link to show how she draws. And I don't know how to use gimp or photoshop so I color with colored pencils but they look horrible since I can't really draw either! Thansk again!

awww thanks! kyara is such a sweetheart i love the way she's evolving her pencil technique ^^
this is pretty much the basics for her or mine techniques, for here on it's freestyle. you just have to get these basics down

Beautiful way of colouring. C:
This is similiar to how I colour (Only yours looks alot smoother)
I wish I had your paper! I've got some smooth bristol paper but the colours tend to clog and not blend as well on it..
So I decided to test some watercolour with the pencils on watercolour paper instead

Thank you so much!
my paper is a lot like printer paper, only a little thiker and has a little more texture but not too much. something like watercolour paper is wayyy~too textured and will clog, like you said. the paper I use is --> [link] the yellow one above...I have no idea whats the equivalent in other contries =\ sorry....

Thanks for a wonderful tutorial! I feel that I've learned so much! but umm... what's wrong with printer paper? >w<
You should rename this tutorial to "How to colour like photoshop on paper!"
I never know that you had to use layer when you colour! I thought that the only time you would do that was in photoshop! Thanks for a great tutorial, hope you'll do another one soon agian! (maybe you can teach us newbies how to draw like you!)
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
A-Xofia In reply to RainAddiction [2007-08-16 00:09:58 +0000 UTC]
No problem! ^_____^ I'm glad you thought it was helpful!
there is nothing wrong with printer paper...how can I say this...I just feel that printer paper is too thin and it's texture is a little glossy and it makes it hard to layer the colours and to blend them, that's all...=\ and with a thinker, softer textured paper it tends to go smoother
LOL you can use layers with just about any sort of media, not just photoshop! it works on watercolours, oil paint and some markers as well ^^ the diference is that unlike in photoshop each layers you put on is permanent, so that's why you need to go softly
Thank you! i might do a watercolouring tutorial, we'll see ^^ (LOL and as for drawing. I hate the way I draw btw, but It can come from nothing more than pratice, it's not something I can do a tutorial on )

This is a wonderful tutorial. Its making me want to dive into coloured pencils again.
The only thing that makes me a bit skeptical is the use of black for shading colour. Maybe its because I've been taught not to do that for other artworks, maybe it works better with coloured pencils
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
A-Xofia In reply to Enydimon [2007-08-07 13:57:11 +0000 UTC]
I know, black is always extremely tricky and you really shouldn't use it with some media. BUT with colour pencils it can work, it you remember tou always use it softly.
Thank you! ^^

Well,I use Crayola,Prismacolor,Prismacolor watercolor, and dollar colored pencils and printer paper, Is this good? and I'm running low on cash (I'm gonna get 30 bucks though xD)

A-Xofia In reply to mookie627 [2007-08-19 21:53:43 +0000 UTC]
yes, as for the pencils I think you have more than enough to get started as for the printer paper it can work, but I tend to tink that if the paper is a little better and stronger and smoother it's easier to blend. it can also work the other way around, you just really need to find a good sort of paper that you think works best, and for me printer paper is just no good >_> but it depends
