nside of her lab Doctor Janet Van Dyne was studying a device that she had recent confiscated from a supervillain. Although she was called Doctor Van Dyne by some people the majority of the public knew her as either the diminutive Wasp or the towering Giant-Woman.
However, for this task was hoping that she wouldn’t have to use any size manipulation whatsoever. Instead she wanted to focus more on her gifted chemistry and engineering mind as she studied the device in question. During her battle with the villain he threatened with using it to go back in time and ensure that she was never born. Thankfully she was able to defeat him and take it away from him. Even though she wasn’t expecting to use her powers she still wore her combat suit anyway. If the worst was to happen at least she would be prepared.
Even though the threat was now gone Doctor Van Dyne couldn’t help but be curious. If this device was capable of allowing someone to travel through time then there could be endless possibilities with it. However, she also knew the dangers of it as she knew that in the wrong hands that the entire world, possibly the universe could be in jeopardy.
Before making any kind of decision on what to do with the device she wanted to see whether it worked or not. This involved carefully taking it apart and looking at the insides, what she found amazed her. It seemed that the technology that the device contained should be impossible at that current time period. She figured that with a few decades of progress that it was possible for this tech to exist but so far it was just science fiction.
However, as Doctor Van Dyne continued to examine the device her small screwdriver tapped onto a particular wire. This caused the device to suddenly activate, it caught her by surprise and as she had little time to react as she was bathed in a strange orange energy. It did cause a small amount of pain in her body but before she could try and call out for help her body suddenly disappeared in the same orange energy.
The next thing she knew she was she found herself flying through what seemed to be some kind of energy tunnel. She had absolutely no control over where she was going and the experience did feel like she was on some kind of roller-coaster. If not for the seriousness of the situation she would have found the whole thing fun.
As she continued to fly uncontrollably through this energy tunnel Doctor Van Dyne felt her body suddenly experience another surge of the energy that she had felt before. This time she was horrified to see that it had focused on the regulator that was located on her belt. It began to short-circuit and this caused her body to experience a sudden and massive growth spurt. One thing that she knew was that she was becoming huge but with nothing around her to give her a sense of scale she didn’t know exactly how much she was growing.
The growth spurt only stopped when Doctor Van Dyne reached the other side of the energy tunnel. Her body hit the ground and from the loud crunching sound she knew that she had to be particularly big. She also hoped that she hadn’t accidentally crushed anyone, this was something that she couldn’t keep on her conscience.
The first thing that she saw was the sun above her. It was shining right into her eyes and she needed to bring her hand up in order to block it. She also began to sit up and she groaned as the impact of her arrival had probably left a couple of bruises on her body. But as she looked around, she was horrified with what she was seeing.
The sight that befell her was something that was both familiar and yet alien to her at the same time. It was the sight of New York City however rather than seeing the bustling metropolis that she was used to instead it seemed to be deserted. Not just that but the entire city was in ruins.
This took Doctor Van Dyne more aback than anything else. Even more than her current size, as she rose up to her feet, she could see that her height was incredible. Judging from the crumpled buildings and the destroyed cars around her she thought that she was several hundred feet in height. To her this was insane, becoming giant size was nothing new to her or even achieving this size. However, she knew how dangerous it could be as well, whenever she did grow to this size it had always been for short bursts. This was because fatigue would quickly set in and once she even collapsed due to this.
Common sense told her to shrink herself to a more manageable size. Unfortunately for her she discovered that this was impossible, the energy that had brought her to this place had also caused her regulator to malfunction. The shrinking capabilities were completely fried but she discovered that the growth circuits were still intact. It helped maintain her size and even increase it if she wanted to. But without the means to shrink herself back down this would be a very unwise move.
Even though this was a problem the main thoughts on Doctor Van Dyne’s mind was the fact that the entire city around her was in ruins. This sent a chill down her very large spine and she attempted to look around for any signs of life. Besides a few birds she could find nothing to indicate that anyone was there. Although a few of these birds did decide to land on her as if she was building. A wave of her gigantic would scare them away for a short time.
Her search was quickly stopped when she suddenly heard a scream. The fact that she could hear it did give her some hope that there were people there. But it also filled her with dread, the person who had screamed sounded like they were in mortal danger. But it was still enough for her to quickly move towards where she had heard it and hope beyond hope that she could find someone.
