I love your versions of Amber/Fool, I think they carry just the right amount of androgyny - s/he could just as easily be a handsome man or a beautiful woman. I love the character too!.

wonderful character sketch. She looks like the fool...and yet different too.
Amber was never one of my favorite characters...I should re-read those books (I read the liveship trilogy before the farseer books) now that I know who Amber is. Maybe I'll like her/understand her more.

What medium did you do them in? I love the contrast of soft color and sharp lines. Beautiful. It inspires me to read Robin Hobb. What series is she from?

Amber is from Liveship Traders (I know, it can be a bit complicated, but I don't want to make a spoilers ;] )
As for you first question - It's done in Photoshop CS3, I was using only custom brushes (mainly the airbrush and roung hard one).

She is from the Liveship Traders trilogy. Though I advise/recommend you to start with the Farseer trilogy.
It is a whole of 4 trilogies (the 4th one being work in progress as we speak): the Farseer trilogy, the Liveship Traders trilogy, the Tawny Man trilogy and the Dragonkeeper trilogy.
Hence, I suggest that, if you wish to read them, you start with the Farseer one

Just like I said before, i love the mystery you show here. And I apreciate the fact that, unlike most people, you don't try to make Amber look like a gorgeous woman ("she"'s not supposed to be in the book), but like a beautiful person, somebody who attracts people with her mystery and kindness and humour, independently of any female or male aspect - I don't know if I'm being clear (sorry, english isn't my native language). Well, by the way, I love what ou did !

This makes a great pair with the portrait of lord Golden, and I can clearly recognice him/her. The coulours are yet again perfectly chosen and here I can found the details and sharper edges I wanted to see in the other pisture

Squeeeee! Ahem, sorry. I just love Robin Hobb's books, and this picture is amazing.
The mystery is wonderful here and lighting beautiful. I also like his hair, it looks like it would be quite fine as it should be. I think everything has already been covered by other people's comments...But I really do think this is wonderful.
I read the LiveShip Trilogy before Farseer, so I had no idea about Fitz or the Fool, but when I read the Farseer Trilogy I pieced things together.
Feels need to reread them all...

I knew it took place in the same world because my mom told me. She was the one who suggested I read them, and I was thrilled I did. I didn't realise they'd all be connected though.

This is spectacular. I am in love with the lighting/color scheme, with the extra bit of cool light coming from the Skill fingers... Amber's face is the perfect balance of androgynous beauty here, soft enough to pass as feminine, but with lines clean and straight to allow her to have "morphed" from the Fool and again into Lord Golden.

Thank you very much ^^ For this one I was using only one colour palette (warm gold/brown and just different shades of it), and some cold violet for the shaded part of face. Also, very soft grey for the Skill (and it turned out to look like silver, yay!). To tell you the truth, it was, in fact, an experiment with colours and I'm very glad thet you like it
