Description
So I made the poll about which tutorial you guys wanted me to make first and the hair one won. But I was already making it anyway hahaha so today I put it in a crappy flash file to make it easier to read.By the way, this is a giant file, so it might take a while to load...
It's called "Ultimate hair tutorial" cause I literally tried to put everything I could think of in it
I'm not sure if this is gonna help anyone ^^"" but well... let me know
This was made using photoshop but I guess you can apply it to any other software o.Γ΅

extremely helpful tutorial! It's a lot better than the ones that just use the default brush and scribble everywhere, because then it starts looking too "straight". I like this method better where you mess around with your default brushes to get an effect! Now I can make realistic hair with the brush as well as uses for other things!

This is such an 'old' (so a bit dated?) tutorial, so I'm really glad to hear that it still helps people! Thank you for this feedback!

So you do this without a pre-made "hair" brush? Jeez, that's tough. I tried that when I was a bit younger and totally failed. I guess I'll use this tutorial sometime and follow it

Hmm for me, pre-made hair brushes just tend to get in the way of my freedom so I just rather do it by hand.
Hope it helps

Ahmmm well, it does shine it just doesn't produce its own light .-.

Miki-The-Panda In reply to Aaraujo [2011-11-06 21:38:21 +0000 UTC]
It reflects light 8D (so it's not a light source)
But yeah, I suppose you could say it shines :3

Does this roll the same with Paint tool sai?
π: 0 β©: 1
Aaraujo In reply to TrustySpork [2011-10-04 02:44:28 +0000 UTC]
Yep
Since there are no blending modes of anything special that sai doesn't have. I don't know about "clipping layer" but you don't really need it, you can do what it does by hand

do have any idea of how i would do hair like [link]
I've been trying to work on a more comic based, yet advanced style of hairs/eyes/body/etc.
But i have no idea where to start with the hair shading, or that in gerneral

Some idea, yeah, but I'm really not so familiar with that type of art =/
You should probably look around in hair tutorials here on DA or try to contact the person from that blog

Here is a copy of the colours used for anyone wanted to do the exact hair. I used screen capture and cs3 to get them...it's a small jpeg image. Free to use of course.

Oh hey it was no problem! I took your advice and just screen captured it and then used the eyedropper.
My pleasure really.

This tutorial is awesome.
--I have a question. Is there any chance I can get your color codes? I'm trying to color brown hair that is pretty much that exactly color and I just can't seem to get it.

Aaraujo In reply to Luna-Darling [2011-04-20 11:11:07 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! Glad you like it!
Ahm... color codes.. you mean like the hex?
I don't follow specific color codes... I kinda just go with what feels right at the moment... So i have no idea what I used that time lol You can try print-screening the images and color-picking from them? Not sure if that works with swf...

I loved it! I actually used your method on my recent deviation.
Oh yes, the hex codes.
Ahh interesting, I was just wondering. Yeah that's a good idea. Thank you very much for responding to me.
