I'd been puzzling over this for a few months before I think I finally figured it out.All I knew was that Oblivion only sees out of one optic.
I couldn't figure out if that optic was Oblivion's eyepatch or the narrow slit. I thought maybe the patch was a seeing aid...but now I'm pretty convinced he sees out of the naked optic and the patch is just a patch....

He sees out of the left one. The patch is used solely for things like infrared scanning. He can't actually see out of it.
Oblivion: *Points at left optic, then resumes work*

AhHA! It all makes sense now!
Half Pint: *continues to squint at each optic...makes funny faces at the left optic to see if it's true*

Oblivion: *Scrunches up what little bit of his face that can actually be seen; his version of making faces*

Half Pint: *giggles, wiggling her fingers under her chin like a Little Rascal and smriking*

Oblivion: *Pretends to go back to working with the wires for a few moments, then grabs her and puts her in a nearby box, closes the flaps, turns it upside down, then sits on top of it*

Half Pint: *bangs on the walls of the box* Hey!! HEY!!! OBLIVIOOOOOOOON! That's not FAIR!! .......*finds an angles at which to shoot her acid silly string at one of the sides and waits as it begins to eat away at the cardboard* Oh, Obliiiiiiviooooon....

Oblivion: *Waits until the last possible moment, then jumps up and whips the box off of her, causing her to shoot a nearby Shockwave with the silly string*

Half Pint: *optics go wide as the string hits their commanding officer* ........HE DID IT! *she points her finger accusingly at Oblivion and runs*
