I was asked to find an article about something I feel strongly about, and do an editorial illustration to accompany it. I chose one about Japan's horrific, bullshit whaling practices in the name of "research." Done in watercolor, ink, and a bit of Photoshop.

It is SO wrong. Finally though, very brave film makers are going to war for these animals. It's an amazing time, and the next ten years are bring a lot of change hopefully, both for marine mammals and sharks. But we all got to keep up the good fight!

it would've been cool if you did the blood as the ocean and the dry sand as the countries on a planet. like if that was the world or a map, you know what i mean?. but hey, great job man!! and yes, i HATE that they do that kind of Sh***.. also the fact that they torture sharks by cutting their fins and tossing them back to the ocean... horrible!!...

That could of been cool, but the focus I wanted was only on Japan. If I included the world, it would have taken away the impact of the Japanese flag in the blood, and been confusing. See what I mean? Glad you like it!

Japan needs to stop......do they even think about the pain they are causing them? I mean, come on. It's sickining......the way they treat whales....dolphins too! Do they not hear their cries of pain knowing that they will die painfully? Do they not see the pain in their eyes? And do they seriously expect us to believe they are doing it for research? Oh so you cant research them by studying them? If they really needed a body.......get one that died of natural causes. What really makes no sense is why are they hunting in a whale sanctuary? Last time I checked, whale sanctuary dosnt include being hunted down, harpooned, shot, and suffacating on their own blood!
