Description
What the title says.Or maybe you can use "overestimated" as well because they're less offensive to give your opinion on stuff that is popular. No matter if something popular is awesome or awful to me or some people.
And the reason why it's offensive is because they say that some things that I like and are popular are considered a bad thing. Like Naruto for example (which I don't give a damn if they hate it since I got to other anime)
I understand when there's bad things IMO such as Stephanie Meyer's Twilight and Randy Orton, but that word offends rabid fans and people who like it when it comes for something good.
Using it instead of its synonyms fuels more drama for the rabid ones.
No popular thing is perfect. Neither is something unpopular.

Overrated just implies hate. If it's not, why do people get offended by that word when a person doesn't hate something popular that's, in their opinion, not as good as what others think.

Because people always take "overrated" as " It's bad and you're too dumb for liking it". It's like no one even knows what it means anymore.

What if we were just making a status post or stamp? Isnβt that being hypocritical and ANNOYING? Especially bashing on them and telling them to use another word. They have the Freedom of Speech!

Also, concerning the "offensive" part, let's not mince words: rabid fanboys SUCK. I really don't care if it causes more drama. So long as I stay out of it, it feels good to see them get triggered by a simple opinion to show how much we've evolved as a soceity.

Yeah, but this could imply that being a fan is a bad thing just because of rabid fanboys who do not want to make their favorite stuff look bad.
Sometimes it makes me imply that love is dead because god forbid people should love something that everyone hates. When in fact it isn't despite haters that are still around here.

Okay, so coming back to this stamp, I feel itβs better used towards the people that use it without knowing what it really means. Compare that to myself, who rarely uses it, and it feels like I canβt even use it, when I havenβt even been using it that much to warrant it being abused.

What if it's being used when someone is talking about their unpopular opinion?

On second thought, it just doesn't sound good. Also, some people that use it have proper use of the term.

Using the word overrated is overrated anyway.
But no seriously, this isn't an issue of fact, but opinion. Some words have different meanings to different people on an emotional level.
It's not the same thing as outright misusing a word like "ironic" or "CGI"
Ultimately it doesn't matter which word you use because none of them will cause any less drama.

True.
"Ultimately it doesn't matter which word you use because none of them will cause any less drama."
If so, how can I defend something I like that everyone hates or how can I get people to stop acting like negative people who hates on everything in the internet?

You can't control what other people think. It's a hard truth of life(and believe me, I probably like this fact a hell of a lot less than you do...). If they won't listen then odds are there's no real ethical way to make them do so.
All you can do is ignore them. If you and they can't agree to disagree, then end the conversation. If they are your friends, then you probably need better friends...

I have some friends that agree to disagree. As long as they say words like "I don't like it but I respect your opinion" and other nice things.
But I agree with you, since the "they" I am referring to are some people who hate the things I like the most and talking about it the harsh way, Such as Power Rangers and Sword Art Online.

Some people don't even try to understand why people like things, certain things more than others, and Power Rangers is definitely one of the things that people like that will often do that with. I don't know anything about SAO or it's "hatedom"(if one should even exist, which is another thing I'm not certain of...) however...

Actually, a better comparison would be the MLP fandom to the Sonic fandom.

The Sonic fandom hates itself more than anyone else though. To be more literal though, there's like 2-5 different lines in the sand and everyone's constantly arguing with everyone on the other side of the lines from them. Either way, that fandom is its own worst enemy and I am glad I do not actively participate in it.
Granted it's not like the Brony fandom is much better but as I see it, the main problem is reversed. Everyone's so adverse to drama they wind up causing trouble for a lot of people but not ousting obvious troublemakers. People like Psyguy and ToonKritic are all over the fandom, not just pedofiles but general assholes, in positions of power. Right now I can tell you for certain that TheInvertedShadow, Looney Turtle, ForNoGoodReason, the Rift Cafe and the Secret Rift all keep troublemakers close to them (singling out Looney from the Rift Cafe because some of the people he keeps around have been banned from the Rift Cafe and Secret Rift and most people in the community don't like them, he is too trusting, more than anyone else in the bronyyalsis community and I singled out ForNoGoodReason because he likes keeping talent around he likes regardless of if they're obviously trouble, which he is smart enough to be aware of, he's not much better himself but his intentions are more noble than those of most of the company he tends to keep, hell, the only reason he even bothers with Peet is because he thinks's Peet's work is quality).
Be careful of who you trust in this fandom and the company you keep. Odds are good any one brony community you're a part of is harboing negative elements. If that's the case, don't bother bringing it up, just cut ties with them as discreetly as possible.

I actually do have a few sane MLP fans as watchers, so I think I'm good there. The only issue is that people are /still/ praising the show, despite it has not improved since season 5.
