Description Hmm... a big deadline on monday and i should be busy writing, but still i felt compelled to pick up the pencil again.. And surprise: another vampire portrait. I seem to be drawing only vampires lately -- i wonder what's bitten me..

So anyway.. About the character. It's not not Osama but Konstantinos, my character from a Vampire: Dark Ages chronicle that has been running for ages. Must be almost a year since we've last played, though. As a mortal during the 8th century Konstantinos was a monk of Greek origin in Byzantine Rome. Now (the year was around 1400 AD when we last played) a member of the Lasombra clan, he's a a ruthless evil bastard driven by his thirst for (occult) knowledge. He will use any means necessary to get what he wants.. this includes already disposing of two other player characters who got in the way of his schemes (and for some mysterious reason the players' new characters seem to carry a grudge for him.. ). He's a lot of fun to play, though. Here i pictured him just being distracted by someone entering his study while he's writing.

This time i didn't plan this drawing at all, i just started drawing my hand holding a quill pen. Done with a basic HB pencil on regular printer paper - yes, i started this at work.. When i got the idea of turning it into a portrait, it meant the head had to be really big (even though the hand still seems quite huge in comparison too..) - the picture fills a whole A4 paper. So once i had done the line drawing it looked strange: there was so much white in it! Usually my drawings of people are really diminutive with the head rarely bigger than my fingertip.. so i thought i'll have to do something about all that empty paper - and started doing that shading. A mistake - once i had started i couldn't stop.. I did the line drawing in 15 minutes but that goddamn shading took 3 hours! Now i remember why i haven't done it that way in a while, at least not to drawings of this size! But i guess it turned out ok.. it'd be fun to colour it too some day. Actually now that i look at it, i think the nose would need some rework but i'm too lazy to touch it any more.. for the time being.

EDIT: Better scan

For a vampire, that actually looks a great deal like the traditional picture of the Jew learning, tallis and all.

Whou. Kerrassaan loistava, varsinkin hienosti toteutetut yksityiskohdat ovat mieleeni.

Kiitos, kiitos! Olen aina ollut detaljifriikki ja tässä rajauksessa niiden väkertäminen oli helpompaa, kun niillä on kokoa enemmän kuin tyypillisessä meikäläisen tekeleessä.

Thanks! I like that hatch technique because it shows the medium.. (And I think it also stuck with me from the time i did a lot of etchings..) Smudging and such is not that much my thing. So with pencils i want the line and the paper to be visible and not overly polished -- i don't really want to create a photorealistic image (That is, even if i could ). Well, neither do i want a caricature.. but a drawing that looks like a drawing!
