Another volume from my library of vintage books scanned in for your viewing pleasure. Stand By For Mars was the first volume in the Tom Corbett, Space Cadet series. Based on the vintage radio program and inspired by Robert A. Heinlein's classic Space Cadet, these books were a great introduction to harder science fiction for younger readers. While Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers rocketed around the solar system having wild adventures, those certainly space fantasy like Star Wars. With noted space advocate and author Willey Ley as the series technical advisor, Tom Corbett's exploits took place in a world with a great deal more emphasis on science. Sure, Venus was a jungle world with dinosaurs and Mars was crisscrossed with canals, but hey - I think that's how it was supposed to be anyway.
