Vampires would sleep in COFFINS.....
Vampires wouldn't DARE walk into the sunlight.....
Vampires would drink the blood of ANY human they could catch.....
And vampires did NOT SPARKLE!!!!!

Vampire stories have been around for centuries. Don't give up on an entire genre of nightmare fuel just because one idiot woman committed a crime against literature. Dracula is still there, and still terrifying. Varney the Vampire and Carmilla are still out there. Salem's Lot is still haunted by the undead. Lestat and his brood are still out there. Bunnicula (if you want a TRUE vegetarian vampire) and his friends (a dog and a possibly insane cat) are still out there.
My point is that there is a hell of a lot of good vampire books out there, and you shouldn't walk away from them to spite Stephanie Myers.
On the other hand, you could always take the energy you're putting into loathing Twilight, write a parody of the entire "bit lit" genre, and make a fortune on the movie rights.

Apparently Stephenie Meyer was trying to portray that we thought wrong about vampires and that they actually sparkled in the sunlight, which was why they didn't out into sunlight.
Which makes no sense to me whatsoever.
