Thank you! I just took a few screengrabs throughout the process though, nothing too intense

Yeah pretty much, just putting the forms in without paying attention to texture and without going too dark or too light. By keeping things fairly midtone heavy at this stage you make it easier to texture and colour later (a mid-grey, for example, can be lit using the dodge tool, and texture applies cleanly to it, whereas if you were to apply the same technique to a dark grey/black you'd lose a lot of that control).

That part where you point out that using a texture brush can break up the solid colors to give it a more realistic quality, I had never thought of that.
So indeed, this is useful. The process looks simple without the text, so the text really helps.
Thanks for sharing this, bud. Gonna look at this repeatedly for the next few days.

I'm glad you found it useful! I use textured brushes pretty much throughout the painting process, mostly charcoal and other natural media variations. Some artists prefer to paint cleanly (with round brushes), then apply photo textures afterwards, but that doesn't really work for me

I'm gonna have to try that soon. I never really thought of the idea, but I guess it could be really useful when making rough terrain or rock foundation, alongside other effects that come from some sort of illuminating energy on a weapon.
I completely forgot got to say "Good work on that piece". So... Good work on that piece, bud.
Now I gonna go find some texture brushes.
