Description
Some of the key phases of creating the 'Contact' image. As you can see, the process required a lot of on the fly experimentation! The final can be seen here:

I used evil when I thought of it more as a purely combat type of metahuman, but I think now its a more well rounded person

I feel like this was a completely different painting for each stage! What an cool process. That's one of the great things about working digitally -- you can change things completely and experiment in ways that are much more difficult to do in traditional painting.

Yeah. I dont do a thumbnailing stage. I tend to design on the fly.

I see you scrapped the vehicle idea completely. And was that long pike-looking thing in the background originally meant to be the metahuman's starship?

They were support entities, designed to plant themselves in the planet's crust, extract minerals and produce products for the humans to use.

Ugh. Humans haven't changed much, eh? Still driven by materialism and commercialism.
I like the finalized version best, because the human seems to me a peaceful explorer, still filled with fascination at discovering new worlds and new life.

Nah nothing like that. Those devices create supplies they need for exploring planets and carrying out missions. More like a mobile supply station.

Oh well that's a bit more comforting to know. If it's a necessity, then that makes it better. I'd think that there'd be regulations though, like not to perform an extraction on a planet with life. Starfleet-style.

That all depends on the government in question. Some human groups are strictly hands off, while others are walking nightmares.

Oh, there are factions? By this point in history I'd have thought humanity was united in peace, but you have a point. Human nature probably wouldn't allow us to all think alike, unfortunately.
Walking nightmares, eh? Like "Eater of Worlds" style?

There is no unity. If anything humans are so much more diverse and widespread there is even MORE division.

Speciation in some cases, in others deliberate modification to such an extent reproduction is impossible in the normal way.

Oh my.
I agree though. Unity and humans together are as good as an oxymoron. Just wishful thinking of the peaceful minority. I suppose that's why we've taken so long to advance, even to present-day levels. :/
