Description Some of the key phases of creating the 'Contact' image. As you can see, the process required a lot of on the fly experimentation!

Wow. You sure went through alot of different versions before you came to your final. I have to admit some of these I like better than the final one. These just shows how talented you are. Amazing work!

Wow, I'm impressed of all the changes and the amazing evolution this picture's been through. But the cars and the environment... Does it still have the same meaning as you started the picture? I was just wondering, because that's something I sometimes struggle with.

Abiogenisis In reply to Droidigan [2015-04-07 13:57:08 +0000 UTC]

It has the same meaning, though the interaction between the human and the birrin was going to be far more direct. I prefer the aloofness of the human in the final.

How long did this take you to complete? And also, what gave you inspiration for what the Meta-Human looks like? I'm sorta seeing some Egyptian in it. Absolutely incredible piece of art btw!

Abiogenisis In reply to annontinz [2015-04-07 13:58:29 +0000 UTC]

I worked on it part time and sporadically, so about six weeks. Was a real slog.

Inspirations include indian religious imagery (hindu), Evangelion, and surrealists like Dali.

always nice to see how another artist thinks. I think panels 5 and 6
looked pretty sweet. could make a Loki type character from it. But  I
love the idea that he or she is the ship.

amazing to see the process. I really dig the first colour one, with the pink neon flashes, that works great. the end result is definitely the right one though, simple and eery.

I noticed in some of these WIPs, ther were some explosions and fire... that means the Metahuman are or can be agressive towards the Birrin?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Abiogenisis In reply to AmaDenchArt [2015-04-07 14:03:33 +0000 UTC]

In those versions, the human was walking through a birrin conflict observing it.

FlameTouchedFrost In reply to ??? [2015-04-06 16:18:19 +0000 UTC]

I love how if you scroll through it, its almost like a story. The Metahuman sits and watches as the first settlers arrive in Birrin drawn wagon, the first encounter. Ages pass and the settlers return with more advanced technology and self powered vehicles, the Metahuman shows interest but then looks back to the heavens. As time passes and the landscape builds up in drifts of sand, mountains rise and crumble. The settlers curious about this strange being begin to build up an outpost around it, first just a single floating sentinel tower, then another, and with time eventually a whole city industrial complex is raised around this mysterious watcher. Monuments are built in the desert as this being becomes an object of worship and fascination for many, a cult is formed. Alas as with all things this too must come to an end, as religious factions fight with the industrializing forces for control civil war breaks out and the city complex falls to flames and dust, the civilization formed around the Metahuman has fallen. Now long abandoned even the original sentinel towers erected by the first settlers, ancient even at the start of the civil war, finally fall to the ground, their power sources gone cold and dead from neglect. Slowly collapsing to dust eroded by the wind. Now eons later all that remains of the settlers is a thine line of power pylons along an ancient road, long lost to the desert sands. Just the ever watchful Metahuman and two Birrin, as it was in the beginning.

This is very cool!
What were the buildings? Like the ones in the images 11, 12 and 13.
Ruins from the ancient Birrin global civilization? Or modern-day buildings ruined by current belic conflict? Or perhaps ancient ruins being destroyed by that conflict?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Abiogenisis In reply to Axel-Astro-Art [2015-04-07 14:00:58 +0000 UTC]

The buildings were old birrin industrial facilities, with a bit of more modern development on top of them.

Truly stunning artwork! I love how every version has it's very own atmosphere to it ranging from ominous and threatening to tranquil and serene. I personally really like the ninth version due to it's tense serenity.
But I really have to know: what is the purpose of that huge fence?

i love all the variations you've experimented with! some feel ominous while some look quite tranquil, it's amazing how color can influence our feelings!

Abiogenisis In reply to PeteriDish [2015-04-06 15:19:12 +0000 UTC]

I found the bright versions surreal, the dark ones menacing. In the end I wanted it to look intimidating and powerful.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PeteriDish In reply to Abiogenisis [2015-04-06 15:27:29 +0000 UTC]

I think you definitely captured that very well in all of them. The dark versions definitely look more menacing than the brighter ones. I feel the humanoid in the final picture doesn't look as evil as in some of the previous versions, and I actually quite like that. It's actually quite close to my idea of how meeting a god or god-like being would feel like. chills down your spine but you just can't bring yourself to look away. I like the fact that he(she?) doesn't seem to be out for blood, but at the same time it's obvious who has the upper hand.
